❤️ Lucas
Dachshund Mix | Male | 11 Years Old | 15 lbs.
Looking for a devoted little companion with classic Dachshund personality, adorable expressive ears, and a love for sunshine, car rides, and cozy blankets? Meet Lucas! 🐶❤️
Lucas is a resilient, sweet-natured senior who has made incredible strides in his foster home. He arrived needing a little extra TLC, but his skin has fully healed, his coat is growing back beautifully, and his confidence continues to grow every day. Now this handsome gentleman is officially ready to find his forever family!

☀️ THE SUNBATHING SENIOR
Once Lucas figured out how to use the doggie door, he discovered one of life’s greatest pleasures — lounging and sunbathing on the lanai! Give this boy a comfortable spot in the sunshine and he’s a happy camper.
🐶 OTHER DOGS
Lucas does well with both small and large dogs, but the personality of his canine companions matters.
He thrives with calm, passive dogs who respect his space. His current foster friends include a 5-year-old Dachshund and an 11-year-old Lab, and he does wonderfully with both.

🐾 WALKS & LEASH MANNERS
Lucas genuinely loves going for walks! Seeing him enjoying his outings and exploring the world is one of the joys of watching this senior boy blossom.
He can be reactive on leash toward other dogs and passersby. His foster mom has been actively working with him, and he has made great progress. His future family should be willing to continue gentle, patient, and consistent leash training.
And don’t underestimate this little senior — Lucas has mastered using steps! 🎉
🏡 POTTY TRAINING
Lucas is potty trained, but he isn’t the type to whine or bark when he needs to go outside.
The secret to his success is simple: a dependable potty schedule or access to a doggie door. With a consistent routine, he does wonderfully.
He’s still becoming accustomed to grass and using the fenced yard, but his confidence continues to improve.
🛏️ BEDTIME SNUGGLER
Lucas has very specific ideas about bedtime — and they’re pretty adorable.
He likes to sleep on top of the bed covers, tucked underneath his very own blanket. He’s a cover-snuggler rather than a sheet-burrower! ❤️
His crate-training history is unknown.
🍽️ MEALTIME
Lucas takes eating very seriously! He eats quickly — even with a slow feeder — and won’t hesitate to offer his services cleaning another dog’s bowl.
Because of his enthusiasm for food, Lucas should be fed separately or in a structured environment, particularly if another dog in the home is assertive around food.

🚗 CAR RIDES & PUP CUPS
Want a little co-pilot for your adventures? Lucas is your guy!
He loves hopping into the car and accompanying his foster family on errands. And if those errands happen to include a stop at Starbucks for a Pup Cup, even better! 🥤🐾
👨 BUILDING TRUST WITH MEN
Lucas can take a little extra time to trust men. He’ll do best with patient male family members who understand that he needs the freedom to approach, investigate, and build a relationship at his own pace.
Once you’ve earned Lucas’s trust, his loving and devoted personality comes shining through.
❤️ MEETING NEW PEOPLE
Lucas has that famous big-dog personality packed into a Dachshund-sized body!
When someone new enters his space, he’s quick to bark and may need a little time to decide that everything is okay. Once he feels safe and gets to know you, however, Lucas becomes incredibly sweet, loving, and devoted.
📣 CLASSIC DOXIE SECURITY SYSTEM
Someone approaching the house? Don’t worry — Lucas will let you know!
True to his Dachshund roots, he’s an enthusiastic little watchdog. He’ll bark quickly to alert his family, but once he’s reassured that everything is okay, he settles down promptly.
If he lives with another vocal dog, the two can encourage each other into the classic “Doxie barking frenzy.” Managing household triggers and excitement will help everyone keep the peace.
🏠 ALONE TIME
When his foster family has watched him on the dog camera during quick errands, Lucas tends to pace while waiting for them to return.
He’ll be happiest with a predictable routine and a family who can include him in outings whenever possible. Considering how much he loves the car, he’ll probably be more than happy to tag along! 🚗❤️
⛈️ LOUD NOISES
Good news — Lucas is not afraid of thunderstorms or loud noises.

🩺 VET CARE
Lucas has received:
• Vet Check
• One or More Vaccines
• Dental Exam
• Neuter
• Nail Trim
• Flea Treatments
• Heartworm Testing & Medication
Lucas also has a harmless rib deformity that has been examined and cleared by his veterinarian. It’s simply part of how this unique little guy is built!
We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
💙 LUCAS’S PERFECT FOREVER HOME
Lucas isn’t looking for perfection — he’s looking for someone who understands him.
He’ll thrive with a patient family willing to give him time to build trust, maintain his potty routine, continue working on his leash manners, and appreciate the wonderfully opinionated personality that comes with loving a Dachshund.
In return, you’ll get a devoted senior companion who loves walks, car rides, Pup Cups, cozy blankets, sunbathing on the lanai, and being close to the people he trusts.
At 11 years young and just 15 pounds, Lucas still has plenty of love, personality, and adventures left to share.
🐾 Lucas has worked hard to become the happy, confident little gentleman he is today. Now he just needs one final thing — a forever family to call his own. ❤️🏡 Adoption Fee: $150
