Adoptable Dachshund Ava (26-175) – Pending Adoption – No Longer Accepting Applications

💗 Meet AVA – Professional Cuddler & Loyal Little Shadow!
🐶 Female Dachshund
🎂 3 Years Old
⚖️ 11 lbs.

Looking for a tiny best friend who believes personal space is completely overrated? Meet Ava, an adorable 3-year-old Dachshund who is the very definition of a Velcro dog! ❤️

Ava may be nervous when you first meet her, but give this sweet girl some patience, love and time to feel safe, and you’ll discover a loving, loyal, toy-obsessed little shadow with a side hustle in lizard control! 🦎😂

🐕 Other Dogs

Ava likes other small dogs, but she can be nervous when meeting a new dog and may need some time to warm up. Introductions should be slow and cautious so she can feel safe.

Once she’s comfortable, though, she loves to play and play! 🐾

Large dogs make Ava nervous, so a home with smaller canine friends would be a better fit.

🐱 Cats: Unknown

👧 Children

Ava would prefer older children who can understand that she may need some time and space to feel comfortable.

🦮 Leash & Walks

Ava came into foster care not knowing how to walk on a leash, but she’s made wonderful progress and now loves going for walks! ❤️

Because walks are still a relatively new experience, she can occasionally become frightened. She’s learning that exploring the world can actually be fun instead of scary!

Ava currently does not potty while on walks. With plenty of positive experiences and practice, she may eventually become comfortable enough to do so.

🏡 House Training

Ava is house trained and also knows how to use a doggie door and ramps! She’s one smart little girl. 🥰

She does not purposefully urinate in the house; however, she does experience submissive urination. Her future family may want to consider using a doggie diaper indoors while helping her build confidence.

Since Ava isn’t currently comfortable eliminating on walks, a home with a yard may be especially helpful and convenient for her.

🛏️ Sleeping & Crate

Crate training is unknown, but Ava absolutely loves snuggling in the big bed and sleeps peacefully throughout the night.

Did we mention she’s a Professional Cuddler? 🥰

🧸 Food & Toys

Ava eats alongside her two foster siblings with no food aggression, and she’s happy to share her toys.

Treats aren’t necessarily the way to this girl’s heart—but bring out a toy and you’ve got her attention! 🎾

Ava LOVES her toys and is always ready to play.

🚗 Car Rides

Road-trip buddy alert! 🚗🐾

Ava loves car rides and will happily accompany her person on an adventure.

❤️ Meeting People

Patience is the key to Ava’s heart.

She’s nervous when meeting new people and may initially seem timid. We don’t know what she experienced before coming into rescue, so she needs people who will allow her to adjust at her own pace.

Once Ava realizes she’s safe, something beautiful happens—she blossoms into an incredibly loving and devoted little companion.

And once you’re her person, prepare to have a furry shadow everywhere you go! ❤️

🧠 Smart Girl

Ava is a clever little Dachshund!

✨ Has made great progress learning to walk on a leash

🌩️ Barking & Loud Noises

Florida thunderstorms don’t seem to bother Ava. 🌧️

She’s also not much of a barker. In fact, it took her foster mom some time before she even heard Ava bark! Even when the other dogs are barking, Ava often just sits back and watches the commotion.

💕 Being Alone

Ava truly is the epitome of a Velcro dog.

She wants to be by her person’s side and doesn’t enjoy being left alone. She will eventually calm down, but her ideal family would be one where she can enjoy plenty of companionship and together time.
