Adoptable Dachshund Kagome (26-182) – Pending Adoption – No Longer Accepting Applications

🐾Meet Kagome – A Super Special Girl Looking For Her Forever Home!🐾

💗 Kagome
🎂 6 years old
⚖️ 17 lbs.
🐶 Female Dachshund

Kagome is an absolutely extraordinary little girl. She may be blind and deaf, but you would never know it from the way she embraces life! She is happy, affectionate, adventurous, and incredibly well adjusted. Kagome doesn’t let her impairments define her—or slow her down one bit.

There is something truly special about this girl, and everyone who meets her falls in love. ❤️

🐕 Other Dogs

Kagome loves dogs of all sizes! Despite being blind and deaf, she engages with other dogs as though she isn’t the least bit different. She happily shared her foster home with two large Rottweilers and did wonderfully with them.

She is friendly when meeting new dogs, but because she cannot see or hear them approaching, introductions should always be gentle and considerate.

🐱 Cats

Kagome’s reaction to cats is unknown.

👧 Children

Kagome does wonderfully with children! Her foster has three well-behaved grandchildren, and Kagome loved spending time with them.

She also frequently attended baseball games and enjoyed interacting and playing with all the kids. ⚾❤️

🦮 Leash & Walks

Kagome is good on a leash and loves going for walks!

If you watched her walk, you might never realize that she has sensory impairments. She gently navigates her surroundings using what her foster affectionately calls the “boop method.” She lightly bumps into things to figure out what is around her, much like a visually impaired person uses a cane to navigate.

Her ability to adapt to the world around her is truly remarkable.

🏡 Potty Training

Kagome is mostly potty-pad trained. She has also sat at the door when she wanted to go outside, showing that she can communicate when she needs a potty break.

🛏️ Crate & Sleeping

Her foster never needed to use a crate with Kagome.

During the day, she enjoys relaxing in her dog bed, but at night her favorite place is snuggled up with her person in the big bed. ❤️

🧸 Food & Toys

Kagome shows no food or toy aggression and happily shared her toys without any issues.

And you won’t believe her favorite game…

🎾 Kagome LOVES playing catch!

Yes—a blind and deaf dog who can actually throw and find her ball! Watching her play is just one more reminder of how incredibly capable and special she is.

🚗 Car Rides

Kagome enjoys car rides and makes a wonderful little co-pilot. She especially loves feeling the wind on her face while riding along. 🚙💨

👋 Meeting New People

Kagome loves people. Her foster says there simply wasn’t anyone she met that she didn’t like!

She isn’t naturally shy or timid, although it can take her a couple of days to completely learn and feel comfortable in a new environment. Because she cannot see or hear someone approaching, new people should introduce themselves to her gently and give her time to understand her surroundings.

🔊 Barking & Anxiety

Thunderstorms and loud noises don’t bother Kagome because she cannot hear them.

She is not an excessive barker, although when she does bark, she can be pretty loud—after all, she can’t hear her own voice! 😊

Her foster didn’t leave her alone very often, but Kagome did not appear to have any significant separation anxiety.

💞 Why Kagome Is So Special

Kagome is an absolute joy. She doesn’t let being blind and deaf limit her love for life in any way. It is remarkable how well adjusted, confident, loving, and capable she is.

She enjoys her walks, loves other dogs, adores people and children, rides happily in the car, snuggles in bed, and even plays catch!

Kagome will need a family willing to give her a little time to learn the layout of her new home and approach introductions gently. In return, they’ll get one incredibly loving and unforgettable companion.

Her foster says it best: there was no one who met Kagome who didn’t fall in love with her.

Kagome isn’t looking for someone to feel sorry for her—she’s looking for someone to share all the love, cuddles, walks, car rides, games of catch, and adventures she still has ahead of her.
