🐾 Meet Rex – A Special Little Boy Looking for His Forever Home! 💙
🐶 Name: Rex
💙 Breed: Dachshund
🎂 Age: 1 Year Old
⚖️ Weight: 11 lbs.
🐾 Gender: Male
💙 Rex may have special needs, but he has a sweet little heart and so much love to give in his own unique way! This adorable 1-year-old dachshund is looking for a patient, understanding family who will embrace him just as he is and give him the safe, loving forever home he deserves.

🐕 Getting Along with Others
-
🐶 Small Dogs: Yes! Rex enjoys the company of other small dogs.
-
🐕 Large Dogs: Yes! He gets along with bigger dogs, too.
-
🐱 Cats: Yes! Rex is cat-friendly.
-
👧 Children: Rex does well with respectful children of all ages. However, because of his medical condition and sensitivity to handling, children must understand and respect his boundaries.
-
🐾 Meeting New Dogs: Rex is friendly when meeting other dogs.
-
👋 Meeting New People: His reaction to unfamiliar people is still uncertain, so gentle introductions are recommended.
🌳 Leash Training & Outdoor Adventures
Rex is not comfortable walking on a leash. His foster has tried, but the experience causes him significant stress, so they have stopped trying to force him.
The good news? Rex absolutely LOVES running around the yard with his doggie friends! 🐾💨
He is happiest when he can explore and play freely in a safe, secure environment. A home with a securely fenced yard would be ideal for Rex, as apartment living would likely not suit his needs.
🚽 House Training
Rex is still working on his potty habits. He doesn’t yet alert his foster when he needs to go outside, but he will use a pee pad when needed.
His future family will need to be patient and understanding as he continues learning.
🛏️ Crate Training & Sleeping Arrangements
Rex uses a doggie pen rather than a traditional crate, giving him a little extra room to move around. He actually enjoys being in his pen, where he feels comfortable and secure.
At bedtime, Rex settles into his dog bed and sleeps quietly throughout the night. What a good little boy! 🌙💤
🦴 Food, Toys & Playtime
Rex has shown no food or toy aggression.
He is a playful little guy who enjoys spending time with his canine companions, especially when they can run and explore together in the yard.
🚗 Car Rides
Rex does well riding in the car when safely secured in either a crate or a doggie car seat.

💕 Personality & Temperament
Rex is a sweet, playful, and incredibly quiet little boy.
-
🐾 He is not generally shy or timid.
-
🤫 He never barks!
-
💙 He enjoys the companionship of other dogs.
-
🧸 He loves having his own comfortable space.
-
🐕 He enjoys playing and running around outside.
-
💗 He shows some signs of anxiety but does not appear to have separation anxiety.
One very important thing to understand about Rex is that he does not enjoy being handled.
Rex is not a lap dog and does not like being picked up or carried. Carrying him up or down stairs causes him to panic and struggle.
His future family must respect his boundaries and allow him to enjoy affection and companionship on his own terms.
Rex doesn’t need someone who expects a cuddly lap dog. He needs someone who will love him for the wonderful little dog he already is. 💙
🩺 Rex’s Special Medical Needs
Rex was born with Congenital Hydrocephalus, a condition involving an abnormal buildup of fluid in the brain. He also has a portion of his skull missing.
Sadly, Rex’s previous owner had him for only one day before surrendering him because he was experiencing seizures.
Rex is not a candidate for surgery, but thankfully, his seizures have been well managed with daily Keppra medication. 💊
His foster has cared for him since January 1st and has witnessed only four seizures during that time. These episodes have been brief, and Rex has recovered quickly afterward.
Occasionally, Rex has a difficult day, but those days are uncommon.
His future family must be committed to:
-
Giving his Keppra medication daily as prescribed.
-
Continuing veterinary care and monitoring his seizure condition.
-
Understanding his physical limitations and handling sensitivities.
-
Providing a safe environment that minimizes the risk of injury.
-
Offering patience, compassion, and understanding on his more difficult days.
Rex’s medical condition is part of his story, but it does not define everything about this sweet boy. He still enjoys playing, spending time with other dogs, and living life in his own special way.
Adoptable Dachshund Rex, 1 year old, 11 lbs.

🏡 Rex’s Perfect Forever Home
Rex needs a very special family who understands that loving a dog sometimes means giving them space, respecting their boundaries, and celebrating the little things.
His ideal home would offer:
💙 A securely fenced yard where he can happily run and play without the stress of leash walking.
💙 A patient, gentle family who understands his medical needs and doesn’t expect him to be a lap dog.
💙 Minimal stairs and unnecessary handling, since being carried is extremely stressful for him.
💙 A safe, peaceful environment where he can feel secure and enjoy his own space.
💙 A commitment to lifelong medical care, including his daily seizure medication and veterinary monitoring.
💙 Understanding and unconditional love, even on the occasional days when Rex isn’t feeling his best.
❤️ A Special Boy Deserving a Special Kind of Love
Rex’s journey hasn’t been easy. Born with a serious medical condition and surrendered after just one day in his previous home, this little boy deserves the chance to finally feel safe, accepted, and loved.
He may never be the dog who curls up in your lap or eagerly walks beside you on a leash. But he can be the little dog who makes you smile as he happily runs through the yard, plays with his furry friends, and settles peacefully into his cozy bed each night.
Rex doesn’t need a perfect home. He needs the right home. One filled with kindness, patience, understanding, and people who will love him exactly as he is.
