Adoptable Dachshund Lucky (26-192)

🍀 Meet Lucky — Your New Snuggle Buddy! 🍀

🐾 Lucky | Male | 4 Years Old | 15 lbs. | Long-Haired Dachshund

Looking for a handsome little guy who will happily be your constant companion and professional cuddle buddy? Meet Lucky, a gorgeous 4-year-old dachshund with a beautiful long-haired red and blonde coat, a sweet personality, and a whole lot of love for his humans!

Lucky can be a little nervous when first meeting someone, but give him some time to get comfortable and he’ll warm right up. Once he decides you’re his person, prepare yourself for ALL the snuggles! ❤️

🐶 Other Dogs

Lucky is generally indifferent to other dogs because, in his opinion, his humans should be paying attention to him! He has started a few scuffles with his foster brother when the spotlight wasn’t shining on Lucky.

He has barked at large dogs in the neighborhood but has not interacted with them directly. When meeting new dogs while on leash, Lucky has barked. He has not had the opportunity to play with unfamiliar dogs off leash.

Because Lucky loves having his humans all to himself, a home where he can soak up plenty of attention may be his dream come true!

🐱 Cats

Lucky’s behavior around cats is unknown.

👧 Children

Lucky has been around younger children at the park and did well when they petted him appropriately with adult supervision. As with any dog, children should be taught to respect his space and interact with him gently.

🦮 Leash & Walks

Lucky walks well on a leash, although he definitely has opinions about when the walk should end! If he decides he’s finished, he may start pulling toward home. 😂

🏡 Potty Training

Lucky is still working on his potty training and needs more practice consistently going outside. He isn’t a big fan of grass and will potty on it inconsistently, so he is still having some accidents in the house.

The good news? Lucky is VERY treat-motivated! 🍖 He responds well to treat reinforcement, so consistency, patience, and plenty of tasty rewards should help him continue making progress.

🏠 Crate Training

Lucky is not crate trained. He will voluntarily go into a crate to rest, but if the door is closed, he will bark.

🛏️ Sleeping & Snuggling

Lucky knows exactly where he thinks a dachshund belongs — in bed with his humans! ❤️

He is happiest snuggled up in the big bed and also enjoys curling up in the recliner with his person at night. He hasn’t shown much interest in a traditional dog bed because being close to his humans is much more his style.

🍽️ Food & Treats

Lucky is an eager eater who absolutely LOVES food! He gets so excited at mealtime that he will happily bark while waiting to be served.

He has not shown food aggression toward his foster brother, although he will absolutely race another dog to make sure he gets to a treat first!

🚗 Car Rides

Lucky is a great little traveler! He rides very well in the car, whether he’s sitting in the passenger seat or snuggled safely with someone.

👋 Meeting New People

When meeting someone new, Lucky is quiet and polite if he is being held. When he’s on the ground, he may bark nervously at first.

Give him a little time to realize everything is okay, and his loving personality begins to shine.

💕 Personality

Lucky is not generally shy or timid, and he isn’t bothered by thunderstorms or loud noises.

When he’s home and comfortable with his people, he doesn’t bark excessively. In fact, his main reason for barking is the excitement of DINNER TIME! 🍽️

Lucky is playful, affectionate, food-loving, and happiest when he can be right beside his favorite person.

🏠 Being Home Alone

Lucky does have separation anxiety and would do best with someone who is home the majority of the time.

He may bark when someone leaves the house — even if another person is still home. The barking usually lasts a few minutes until he becomes distracted. He will also bark if left home with another dog.

More than anything, Lucky simply wants to be near his person at all times. He doesn’t even need to be in your lap — sometimes lying on your foot is close enough! 🥰

A retired person, someone who works from home, or someone who spends much of their time at home could be a wonderful match for Lucky.

❤️ Lucky’s Perfect Forever Home

Lucky is looking for someone who wants more than just a dog — he wants someone looking for a true four-legged sidekick.

He wants to be wherever his humans are, whether that means curled up beside you in the recliner, tagging along for a car ride, following you around the house, or snuggling into bed at night.

Lucky may need a little patience while he continues working on potty training and learning that it’s okay when his people leave, but what you’ll get in return is a loyal, loving little shadow who simply wants to be by your side.

If your dream dachshund is equal parts handsome, playful, food-loving, snuggly, and completely devoted to his humans, Lucky may be your perfect match.

If you’re looking for a constant companion, Lucky is more than happy to apply for the position! 🍀🐾❤️
