Adoptable Dachshund Elise (26-179) – Pending Adoption – No Longer Accepting Applications

🐾💕 Meet Elise — A Sweet Little Survivor Ready for Her Forever Home! 💕

Elise is a beautiful 5-year-old, 9 lb. longhaired dachshund who has been through more in her short life than any little dog should have to endure. Despite everything, this precious girl remains incredibly sweet, gentle, forgiving, and loving. ❤️

Elise is discovering what it means to be a cherished family pet, and every day she comes out of her shell a little more. Her foster absolutely adores her and says anyone would be blessed to have this special girl in their life.

🐶 Dogs & Other Pets
Elise does well with dogs of all sizes — big and small! She can be somewhat timid when meeting new dogs, but she does just fine with them, and the other dogs in her foster home really like her.

🐱 Cats: Unknown

👧🧒 Children
Elise is good with children of all ages and LOVES playing with kids! Having children around to love and play with could be a wonderful part of her new life.

🦮 Leash & Walks
Elise isn’t currently good on a leash, but that’s understandable — she was never taught many of the things most family dogs learn when they’re young. She is also still healing from multiple surgeries, so her foster hasn’t wanted to push her.

With some patience, practice, and positive reinforcement, her foster believes she’ll do just fine once she’s feeling better and has had more time to learn.

🏡 House Training
House training is a work in progress, but Elise is already using a pee pad with no problem! She’ll need a patient family willing to continue teaching her.

🛏️ Crate, Pen & Sleeping
Elise is not crate trained, but she’s happy and comfortable in a good-sized pen and uses a dog bed.

She sleeps quietly through the night. 🌙 Her foster’s little “alarm clock dog,” Dixie, starts barking as soon as the sun comes up — and Elise has decided to join in! 😂 Other than that, Elise is not a big barker.

🚗 Car Rides
Elise does well riding in the car and is ready to accompany her new family on adventures once she’s fully healed.

🥰 Personality
Elise is shy, sweet, and somewhat timid, but she has already come so far. She’s beginning to understand that people can be kind and that being someone’s beloved pet is a pretty wonderful thing.

She’s friendly when meeting new people, although she can initially be shy. She has really started coming out of her shell and continues to gain confidence.

Elise has shown no signs of separation anxiety and is not food or toy aggressive.

🩺 Medical Care
This little girl has been through quite a medical journey. Elise has received:

✨ Vet check
✨ Vaccines
✨ Spay
✨ Heartworm testing and prevention
✨ Flea treatment
✨ Nail trim
✨ Temporary medication
✨ Treatment for a severe skin infection
✨ Major dental cleaning and extractions
✨ Eye removal surgery

When Elise came into rescue, she had a terrible skin infection, and her coat was so badly matted that all of her fur had to be shaved. Thankfully, her beautiful long hair is growing back wonderfully! 💗

At only 5 years old, Elise also had a mouth full of rotten and broken teeth and ultimately had to have all of her teeth removed. She has additionally undergone surgery to have an eye removed.

Elise will need to have the sutures from her eye surgery removed on October 6.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

❤️ Elise’s Story
Despite the miserable existence Elise endured before coming into rescue, she is unbelievably sweet.

She has every reason to be afraid of the world, yet she is learning to trust. She’s learning to play. She’s learning that a soft bed belongs to her, that gentle hands bring love, and that being someone’s pet can mean safety and happiness.

Through painful skin problems, extensive dental work, losing an eye, and everything else she’s faced, Elise has remained sweet and forgiving.

Her foster says it best:

“I love Elise. Anyone would be blessed to have her.” ❤️

Now this tiny 9-pound girl deserves the very best chapter of her life — a patient, loving forever family who will give her the time, security, and affection she should have had all along.
