Adoptable Dachshund Maya (26-191)

🐾 Meet Maya – A Sweet Senior Looking for Her Forever Person! ❤️

🐶 Name: Maya
🎀 Breed: Dachshund
🎂 Age: 12 years young
⚖️ Weight: 11 lbs.
💕 Gender: Female

Meet Maya, an adorable 12-year-old dachshund with a gentle soul and so much love to give! This sweet senior girl is ready to find her forever home, where she can enjoy leisurely walks, explore the outdoors, and, most importantly, be right by her favorite person’s side. Maya is a little shadow who loves human companionship and would make a wonderful addition to a loving home!

🐕 Good with Other Dogs?

Yes! Maya gets along well with other small dogs. She enjoys spending time with her foster sister, Rosie, and the two often go outside together. They even play a little! Her experience with larger dogs is unknown.

🐱 Good with Cats?

Absolutely! Maya has previously lived with cats and does wonderfully with her foster family’s cat. She was initially curious but now mostly ignores her feline friend. She doesn’t chase or bark at cats.

👧 Good with Children?

Maya’s experience with children is unknown.

🦮 Leash Training & Walks

Maya knows her harness and enjoys going for nice, slow walks. She’s not looking to run a marathon, but she loves taking her time exploring and enjoying the fresh air!

🏡 House Training

Maya is housetrained! She had just two accidents when she first arrived at her foster home, both early in the morning before she could be taken outside. With a consistent potty routine, she does very well.

💤 Crate Training & Sleeping

Maya is crate trained and sleeps in her crate overnight and during the day. While she does well, the crate isn’t her favorite place because she’d much rather be snuggled up next to her chosen human!

She’s especially attached to her foster dad and absolutely adores him. She may whine a little at bedtime because she’d prefer to be with her people. Maya also uses a dog bed.

🦴 Food, Treats & Toys

Maya has shown no food aggression around other dogs or cats and takes treats very gently. She’s not particularly interested in toys.

She’s a casual eater who likes to graze throughout the day. Her foster family leaves food available, and Maya decides when she’s hungry. Sometimes she eats breakfast or dinner, and sometimes she skips a meal.

🚗 Car Rides

Maya enjoys car rides and is happy to come along for an adventure!

❤️ Personality & Temperament

Maya is a sweet, gentle, somewhat timid little girl who loves people and gets along well with new dogs.

When her foster family reaches down to pick her up, she sometimes rolls onto her back or lies flat on the floor. She can be a little submissive, so a gentle, reassuring approach works best.

Maya is happiest when she’s close to her favorite human. In the evenings, she tends to wander around exploring rather than settling down in the living room. But if someone sits on the floor, she’ll happily sit beside them or climb into their lap!

She hasn’t shown any interest in getting onto the couch, even with doggie steps available.

A few more wonderful things about Maya:

  • 🐾 She doesn’t bark!

  • 💕 She has no separation anxiety.

  • 🥰 She loves being close to her people.

  • 🌳 She enjoys exploring outside.

  • 🐶 She’s friendly with other dogs and cats.

  • ❤️ She’s an easygoing girl who simply wants to be loved.

🚨 Important Safety Note

Maya may be small and senior, but she still has a little adventurous streak! She once escaped the yard and slowly ran across the street. Her foster has also seen her try to push open the fence gate.

Although she has stayed close when supervised in the garage and front yard, Maya should always be carefully supervised outdoors and kept secure on a leash or in a safely enclosed area. Her future family will need to be mindful of doors, gates, and possible escape opportunities.

🏡 Maya’s Perfect Forever Home

Maya would love a calm, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years surrounded by affection. She would be happy with a friendly canine companion or a cat, but what she really wants is a special human to call her own!

She doesn’t need constant excitement or endless activities. Just some slow walks, time to explore, a comfortable place to rest, and someone who enjoys having a devoted little shadow nearby.

Her forever family should understand her timid nature, provide a consistent potty routine, and keep her safe during outdoor adventures.

💖 Could You Be Maya’s New Best Friend?

At 12 years young, Maya still has plenty of love to share! She’s sweet, gentle, affectionate, and happiest when she’s right beside someone she adores.

Maya isn’t asking for much — just a safe home, a loving heart, and a person she can follow around for the rest of her days. 🥹❤️
