After spending the early part of his life in a breeding situation, Oscar 2 is embracing his new freedom and discovering just how wonderful life can be. Now all he needs is a family to call his own.

🚶 Exercise & Training

Oscar 2 may not have had much experience on a leash before coming into rescue, but he adapted quickly and now truly enjoys his daily walks! He’s eager to explore the world with his favorite person by his side.

House training is still a work in progress, but don’t let that discourage you. Oscar 2 arrived with very little house training, and in less than two weeks he has made incredible progress. He wants to please and is learning quickly, so with consistency and patience, he’s well on his way to becoming fully house trained.

🏡 At Home

Oscar 2 settles nicely in a crate when needed, although he doesn’t choose to go into it on his own. He enjoys cozy dog beds, but if given the chance, he’d happily snuggle beside his favorite human. He’s such an enthusiastic sleeper that he sometimes squirms around, so his foster often has him sleep comfortably in a crate next to the bed.

Like most dachshunds, Oscar 2 loves food! His foster feeds him separately from the resident dog to keep meal times peaceful, and Oscar certainly wouldn’t turn down an opportunity to sample someone else’s dinner. He could also use just a little extra weight, which his foster is happily working on.

🚗 Adventures & Social Life

Oscar 2 has only taken a few car rides—to his foster home and veterinary appointments—and has done well, preferring to relax safely in his person’s lap.

When meeting new people, Oscar 2 is sweet but very shy at first. Once he feels safe, his affectionate personality shines. He’s unsure around unfamiliar dogs, especially while out walking, and tends to become anxious rather than confident.

💕 Personality

Oscar 2 is the definition of a Velcro dog. He loves being close to his person and will happily follow you from room to room. Loud noises can make him nervous, and he has shown some separation anxiety, but his foster believes this is simply because he’s still learning to trust after his previous life. As he settles in, his confidence continues to grow.

One thing you won’t have to worry about? Excessive barking! Oscar 2 is remarkably quiet and usually only joins in if another dog starts barking first.

Despite being a senior, Oscar 2 has the heart of a puppy. His foster describes him as a playful, energetic little guy who brings joy everywhere he goes. He loves giving kisses, cuddling close, and making his people smile. His sleek black coat is glossy and beautiful, with just a few gray hairs hinting at his true age.
