Adoptable Dachshund Mix Sawyer is a 4 year old, 17 lb. dachshuund mix. He is a loving little guy with a big heart and an even bigger personality! This adorable pup is looking for a calm, understanding forever home where he can feel safe, secure, and loved.
About Sawyer:
- Good with dogs his size or smaller
- Can be selective or uncomfortable around large dogs
- Unknown with cats and children under 5
- Likes older children
- Friendly, affectionate, and cuddly with people
- Excellent travel buddy and does great in the car
- Crate trained and house trained
- Walks well on a leash, but slowly due to a previous back issue
- Food motivated and very loyal once he bonds with his person
Sawyer’s Special Needs:
Sawyer was born with IVDD and has undergone major surgery. He’s making great progress and is determined, motivated, and full of love—but he does need a home that understands his limitations and keeps him safe.
Important Care Information
- Needs minimal jumping and should remain on ground level
- No beds, couches, or high furniture for safety
- Wears a diaper indoors due to some incontinence/dribbling related to his back condition
- Does best with quick potty breaks and flat walking surfaces
- Prefers a calm, structured environment
Personality:
Sawyer is deeply devoted to his people and forms strong bonds. He can be protective and vocal at times, especially when he feels unsure, but with consistency and understanding, he thrives beautifully. He enjoys companionship, cuddles, and simply being close to his humans.
While he isn’t especially interested in toys, he absolutely loves food and responds well to routine and structure. Feeding separately or first is recommended, as he can be protective during mealtime.
Ideal Home
Sawyer would do best:
- As an only dog, or with small to medium dogs, not a fan of big dogs
- In a calm home environment
- With adopters who understand IVDD care and mobility limitations
- In a home where he can safely relax, cuddle, and enjoy life at his own pace

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
