Rex has been diagnosed with Hydrocephalus, specifically bilateral hydrocephalus with supracollicular fluid accumulation. This means he has a buildup of fluid in the brain along with a fluid-filled area (similar to an arachnoid cyst) located in part of his midbrain.
In simple terms, Rex is missing part of his skull and has fluid buildup in his brain. This is a lifelong condition that will require ongoing care and may shorten his lifespan.
He is currently doing well and is maintained on Levetiracetam daily to help reduce and prevent seizures.
This condition is most commonly seen in small breed dogs and, while uncommon, can be serious. Rex will need a dedicated adopter willing to continue his medical care and give him a safe, loving home.
We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
Adoptable Dachshund Rex – 1 yr, 7.5 lbs

💫 Adoptable Dachshund Rex may be small, but his heart is HUGE. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, and loving companion, Rex could be your perfect match! While he is doing very well, this wonderful and playful pup will need an adopter who can continue his ongoing medication for hydrocephalus and establish him with a vet who will stay abreast of the condition. He doesn’t require special daily care, other than medication. Adoption fee $300
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
