Ava – April 1, 2020

Adoptable dog Ava is a lovely, relatively laid-back gal that enjoys sunbathing and walking on a leash.  Please understand that while she appears 80% doxie, she is mixed with what we believe is a larger dog with a “stocky” build.  She is in great shape as far as physique but she does not have the “slender” profile of a standard dachshund.  She is “tolerant” around small dogs but really does not want to interact with them at all.  She does NOT care for large dogs and she has not been cat tested.  She would challenge ANY dog that challenged her first (she is not submissive at all).  She definitely wants to be the boss.  She would not be able to be trusted around children and her best case scenario would be as an only dog with just her humans to love on her.

Although she has some issues, she can be very lovable and someone has taught her to “sit up” for treats and she is very funny when she chases her tail. Read more about Ava HERE or by clicking on the title.

If you think Ava is the right dog for you, please fill out an adoption application with her name on it.  If you have any further questions, you may reach her foster mom at president@lowriderrescue.org.

Brodie – April 1, 2020

Brodie is a strikingly handsome tri-color piebald boy who came to Low Rider as a stray, intact male with heartworm disease.  Therefore, we feel that while he may have been loved, he did not receive much vetting care.  We quickly learned that aside from the heartworms he was in very good health.  He has undergone heartworm treatment and has been neutered and he is ready for his forever home.  He is a happy, active boy who loves to go on walks and to the dog park.  He is good with dogs and people (including older children) but he is not cat-friendly.  He does not care for a crate either, but there is really no reason to crate him.  He is house trained, rides well in the car and enjoys playing with toys.  He likes to sleep in the big bed with you and he is afraid of thunder. Brodie weighs 13 pounds.

If you think Brodie is the right dog for you, please fill out an adoption application with his name on it.  If you have any further questions, you may reach her foster mom at president@lowriderrescue.org.

Roscoe – March 24, 2020

Roscoe is an 8 year old male Yorkie and Dachshund mix. He is a lovable dog who will make a great companion. Although great with people that he knows, he is shy of introductions. He is fearful of humans initially but warms up with time. Roscoe is a big lover and extremely loyal. He likes to stay close to his people. He is very affectionate and human focused. He gets along well with children and other dogs in our home. However, older children would be best. No aggression with food or toys. Listens well. He can be fearful so being around young kids that aren’t patient would not be a good fit. He is house trained and has not had one accident. His days are filled lounging on the tops of couches or in his bed with his pile of squeaky toys. He cannot have enough squeaky toys! Roscoe doesn’t mind car rides and likes to look out window. He walks well in a harness and on a leash. He enjoys walks and spending time with you. He is content to sleep in a human bed on top of your pillow or his bed on the floor.

Opie – March 3, 2020

***PENDING ADOPTION***

Meet Opie! This 2014 red definitely gets better with age! Nicely housetrained and happy to snuggle on the couch with you, he is an ideal member of any family with older children, or ideally an individual or a couple or retired individual who just wants to stay home and have a constant friend.  Opie bathes well, goes outside to do his business and promptly asks to come back in, and is very happy to let you know when there is somebody at the door. He would prefer to sleep under a blanket at the foot of your bed every night and is the first one to claim your lap when you sit down.

His previous owner worked far too many hours and had him in a crate for more than 12 hours per day. Unselfishly, he was given to us for rehoming. He does go into the crate willingly however it is not his favorite place. He will do just fine as an only dog or with other small dogs. He has been with larger dogs, but does not care for them very much.

Willifred – March 3, 2020

***PENDING ADOPTION***

This amazing little 10 lb black and tan has the biggest heart of all. All he wants to do is make you happy, whether it be by sleeping by your side or gleefully fetching you a new toy,

Wils doesn’t let his genetic lumbosacral defect slow him down! He is just like any dog, except he walks a little unsteadily and will need help onto the couch or bed. He will bring a toy to you and wait patiently for you to throw it. If you don’t, you’ll see his giant eyes and feel the little nudge of his nose… “Ummm… did you not see? I brought you something! Hi! See? Hi!!!”

He plays well with others; but will likely do best with a smaller dog friend. He wants nothing more than to follow you around and give you his heart of gold.

His previous owner worked far too long, leaving him in a crate for upwards of 12-14 hours. It was the owner’s unselfish love that sent him here. He will follow you to the crate, but all he wants to do is be with you, as he never got quite enough time with his owner.

Please consider Little Willipede if you have another dog. We prefer a childless home, but would consider older kids. He needs gentle care due to his back, but the veterinarian assured us that this impairment will never get worse. However it also will never get better. It doesn’t seem to affect little Wil whatsoever.

Ginny – February 10, 2020

***PENDING ADOPTION***

Ginny has a delightful personality that will melt your heart! She is a real love who has blossomed under good care. She came to us from a shelter and was malnourished, suffering from chronic flea condition that made her lose a good portion of her fur. Ginny had double ear infections and huge bladder stones that made her incontinent and painful to urinate. She was suffering. Although plagued with all these conditions, Ginny has been a sweet and happy pup. She loves to eat and has now gained a healthy 6 pounds which puts her at 25lbs. Her coat is doing much better and the bladder stones have been removed and has proved that she is fully potty trained and learned to use a doggy door to go outside. She must be kept on a prescription diet to lower the chances of getting stones again. Her ears must also be cleaned weekly to avoid infections. Ginny is great with dogs, cats and people in general, she can be timid when she meets new people but warms up after she knows she is safe. You can often find her snuggled up to her dog buddies! Additionally, this sweet girl would do best in a home with company (either multiple people or pets) because she can suffer from some separation anxiety when left alone, but she is getting better! Ginny gets startled by cars when on walks, but with patience and practice we are sure she will improve. She makes progress regularly!

Ginny has tons of love to give, she can be funny, playful with her people and dogs and melt your heart with her personality.

Charlie – January 10, 2020

Adoptable dachshund Charlie is a perfect gentleman.  Through no fault of his own, Charlie had found himself in need of a home. He’s a good boy who deserves to live out his days surrounded by love.

He is a jumper so we have to be careful about him on furniture because of his back.  He is very independent but attached to his blanket when sleeping.   Loves to be covered at bedtime.

Charlie enjoys playing ball and will dance for his dinner as he sits watching you in the kitchen.

He’s a loving little man who prefers to follow you rather than be held.  Charlie loves cats and other dogs.

Adoptable dachshund, Charlie, even though up there in age, is very alert and will let you know if he hears strange noises. He is a delight to have around. As a matter of fact, we can’t be certain of his age because he acts like a much younger dog.

Charlie’s foster mom says he’s a real love and, “His fur is like velvet and he bounces when he walks!”

Bella – December 29, 2019

***PENDING ADOPTION***

Meet Bella. She is a mostly black, black and tan senior girl 14 years old and weighs about 12 pounds. Bella is very quiet and reserved but very loving girl. She rarely barks and loves to sit next to you on the couch, content to be petted as much as you are willing to give her. She does well in her crate and sleeps all night without incident. Around 6:30 AM she will give one bark to let you know it is time to get up and take her outside. Bella is about 80% house trained and does best on a schedule, however a home with a yard/doggie door might offer more flexibility. Bella gets along with other dogs and cats. Kids are unknown however with her very quiet and sedate  nature active children would not be recommended. She walks very well on the leash and seems to enjoy her time outside. Bella is slightly hard of hearing but does hear and respond.

Lily – October 27, 2019

***PENDING ADOPTION***

Meet Lily, she is a 2-year-old chiweenie and has the cutest smile I’ve ever seen on a pup. She loves to play and be the center of your attention. Lily is good at potty training but isn’t completely there yet. She is great with other dogs and with cats, but sometimes likes to chase cats and play. She is crate trained and can sleep in it overnight with no problems if needed, but would also do great in your bed with a little patience.  Lily also does well with children 10 or older, unsure about under 10. She is such a precious puppy and will make an awesome addition to any home.

Dinghy – October 27, 2019

Dinghy is a sweet, fun-loving young boy that does not know he is different from other dogs.  He has his whole life ahead of him and he’s hoping you are the one to see how special he can make your lives together.

Companionship is #1 with him.  Human companionship.  He does love to play with other dogs but when it comes to attention from you, he will push to be first in line.  He is looking for someone that is home most of the time so his special needs can be met and the two of you can have so much fun together.

Dinghy’s back was injured and now he cannot use his back legs to walk.  He also is incontinent of urine and bowels.  However, he is not all that difficult to care for if you get into a routine and he has so much love to return for your efforts.  He needs to wear a diaper for management of bowel movements that he does not have control over and his bladder needs to be expressed as well (otherwise, when it is full, it will slowly leak out).  The bladder expression is VERY easy to do.  (I had never done it before and I just squeezed his belly and that was all it took.)  He uses a “drag bag” to move around when he is not in a wheeled cart.  This bag protects his legs from rubbing on the floor as he moves.  He can use a wheeled cart and it will come with him when he is adopted.  It is enjoyable to go for walks using the cart and easy to put him into it.

It sounds like a lot and for some maybe it is but he gives back so much in return and is a constant companion.  Dinghy’s foster mom is available to answer any questions and tell you so much more about his bright, bubbly personality.  If you would like to know more about him, please email lowriderrescue.org and put Dinghy in the subject and his foster mom will get back with you.  If he is not the right fit for you, please spread the word about this sweet boy as we feel strongly someone out there needs him as much as he needs them.
