Adoptable Mix Pappy

Adoptable Mix Pappy Santiago came from a shelter and was in need of TLC. He adjusted quickly and is a sweet dog. “Big Pappy” will make a terrific companion in a calm environment.

Pappy Santiago

Upon arrival, Pappy wasn’t in great shape. He was afraid, had skin issues and had trouble eating. Now, his hair is growing, he has soaked up the TLC, and is a happy and playful pup!

Pappy’s interactions with his foster brothers are characterized by mutual respect and companionship. Despite the limitations posed by the leg surgery of one brother and Mix’s own health condition of kennel cough, they navigate their interactions with understanding and patience. When at the vet Pappy was good with cats and dogs that were medium to small. When there was a big dog he was nervous and barked.

He does get skittish or nervous and when he does he tends snap, so young children would not be a good fit. Pappy is good on the leash with a collar and does not pull. He is afraid of a harness and reacts negatively from that fear. Over time, it would likely be possible to change such a fear response with patience and love. He has not encountered other dogs while on walks, so his reaction is unknown in that situation, but he was fine at the vets office.

Big Pappy

Pappy is house-trained and crate trained, although, he simply tolerates the crate and prefers his doggy playpen. In his foster home, he has slept in his own bed. He very well might enjoy sleeping in the big bed, but he is fine either way.

This little fella is plenty smart. He is familiar with the commands to, “Be nice and go get your toy.” He has not shown toy or food aggression. On car rides, he prefers to ride in your lap but seems to enjoy the experience.

Pappy enjoys being the center of your attention and is friendly when meeting new people. Due to some trauma in his past, it’s important to approach with caution at first. There have not been any issues with this, but for his sake, it’s wise to be careful.

In our care he has received: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Spay or Neuter, Skin treatments/ infections, Nails Trimmed, Heart Worm testing and medication. Pappy has allergies to grass. If a shot is not possible, there is medication available.

Once Pappy knows you, he is lovable and wants and gives so much love. He is very playful with his toy, which he fetches and brings back to you. He plays tug of war but lets you know when to toss it. He is housebroken. Pappy enjoys being outside, going for walks and car rides. He will make a sweet companion for someone or a couple in a calm environment and would be ok to have a fur sibling.
