Dachshund Mix Cornelius

Look at that sweet face! Meet two-year-old dachshund mix, Cornelius. This boy came to Low Rider from a shelter with an injury to his leg. We were able to get him into the right hands of specialists, and luckily save the leg with surgery! After a great amount of rest combined with love and care from his foster family, Cornelius is ready to find his forever home.

Cornelius’ leg has healed up well. He enjoys going on walks with you and exploring the neighborhood. Some leash training would do him some good, as he likes to pull a bit from excitement. When Cornelius meets new dogs on walks, he barks but does not show aggression.

In his foster home, Cornelius has been on a walk routine to go out and go potty. He will let you know if he needs to go out. He has spent a lot of time in a play pen area during his recovery period. We assume that he would love to sleep in the big bed with you, however, foster mom has been cautious with the height of the bed.

Cornelius is happy to accompany you on a car ride. He likes to sit in the back and take it all in – sometimes hopping into the front passenger seat for some love. Other favorites of Cornelius include cuddling on your lap and playing with his Kong toy.

Because of his initial leg injury, Cornelius was isolated to help him rest and heal after surgery. He did not have much interaction with other dogs or small children during this time. Foster mom believes he will get along well with small dogs after first introduction. Cornelius hasn’t had any in-home interactions with cats that we are aware of.

Cornelius does well when he meets new people. He has a lot of character and melts when he meets women and children. Foster mom notes that he doesn’t love uniforms.
