🐾 Meet Whiskey! 🐾
5 years old • 11.5 lbs. • Dachshund • Male
Whiskey is an incredibly sweet little boy who is discovering what it means to be part of a loving home. ❤️ He came into rescue from a backyard breeder, and we believe he spent much of his previous life confined to a crate. Because having the freedom to explore a home, follow his people around, and simply be a dog is still new to him, Whiskey can be a little shy and unsure at first.
But underneath that timid exterior is a sweet, friendly and loving little guy who wants nothing more than to be near his people. 🥰

🐶 Other Dogs
Whiskey does well with other small dogs. He did just fine when he was first introduced to the dogs in his foster home.
• Small dogs: Yes! ❤️
• Large dogs: Unknown
• Cats: Unknown
👧 Children
Whiskey has not yet been around children, so his comfort level with kids is currently unknown.
🦮 Leash & Walks
Whiskey can walk nicely on a leash — when he wants to! 😄 Because he recently had his dental and neuter, his foster is just now able to begin working with him on walks.
As he continues to gain confidence and experience more of the world, his leash skills should have plenty of opportunity to develop.
🏡 House Training
Great news — Whiskey is house trained! 🎉
He does best when taken outside regularly and given enough time outdoors to finish his business. At night, he can typically go about 8 hours without having an accident.
🛏️ Crate & Sleeping
Whiskey is crate trained, although given his background, his foster is allowing him to discover other comfortable places to relax and sleep.
He has slept in a dog bed a couple of times, but his favorite spot seems to be a soft, folded blanket on the floor. ❤️
Whiskey would really like to sleep in the big bed with his foster, but once he’s there, he just can’t quite settle down. For now, he’s more comfortable sleeping in his own cozy spot nearby.
🍖 Food & Toys
Whiskey has shown no food or toy aggression.

🚗 Car Rides
Whiskey enjoys riding in the car, making him a nice little companion for trips and adventures.
👋 Meeting People
Whiskey is friendly with new people, although he can initially be skittish, shy and timid.
When he’s unsure, he may cower or roll onto his back. Give him a little patience and reassurance, though, and you’ll see what a genuinely sweet and friendly boy he is.
🐕 Meeting New Dogs
Whiskey has done well meeting other dogs. He had no problems when he was first introduced to the dogs in his foster home.
💗 Personality
Whiskey is a little shadow who likes being close to his person. He will follow you everywhere, then happily settle on the floor or sit beside you on the couch.
Sometimes he’ll scurry around the house or seem a little leery of his surroundings. After spending so much of his previous life confined, having the freedom to run around a home appears to be a whole new experience for him.
Every day, he’s learning that freedom, comfort and love are good things. ❤️
⛈️ Noises, Barking & Anxiety
Whiskey has shown no signs of separation anxiety.
He doesn’t particularly like loud noises, although he’s getting better. Thunder can still make him react a little.
His foster considers him a moderate barker, but he mainly joins in when the other dogs start barking first.
Adoptable Dachshund Whiskey, 5 years old, 11.5 lbs.

🏡 Whiskey’s Dream Home
Whiskey deserves a home where he can continue discovering how wonderful life outside of a crate can be.
A patient, loving adopter who understands that some new experiences may initially make him nervous would be ideal. Give Whiskey the time and security he needs, and you’ll be rewarded with a sweet little companion who wants to follow you everywhere and stay close by your side.
Whiskey has already come a long way. Now he just needs someone to show him that he’s finally home — forever. 🐾❤️ Adoption Fee: $325
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it. BE SURE to include the ID NUMBER!
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
