Adoptable Dachshund Pipsqueak (Pending Adoption, please don’t apply!)

Meet Adoptable Dachshund Pipsqueak, at just 5 years old and 11 pounds, Pipsqueak may be little…but his quiet, gentle presence fills a room in the sweetest way. He’s the kind of dog who starts out a bit shy, giving a polite bark when meeting someone new, and then melts into your hands for pets once he realizes he’s safe. Watching him come around and choose to trust you is something really special.

Pipsqueak is a calm, quiet boy who enjoys the simple things. He loves his squeaky toys (they’re his prized possessions – he won’t guard food at all, but he does like to keep his favorite toy to himself). During the day, you’ll often find him relaxing in his dog bed, and at night he happily sleeps in his crate. He’s comfortable having the run of the house when you’re out and doesn’t seem bothered – when you return, he’ll come running to greet you and then settle back into his bed like the good little gentleman he is.

He’s doing great with house training and will let you know when he needs to go out. He enjoys his walks, though sometimes he’ll sit down if he’s not quite ready – on Pipsqueak time, of course. Once he’s ready, he’s happy to stroll along. He’s new to wearing a collar and leash, and we’re transitioning him to a harness to protect his sensitive throat. He’s learning beautifully. He also loves riding in his doggie stroller and enjoys car rides once he settles in (the back seat helps him feel more secure).

Pipsqueak hasn’t had much experience around other dogs and will bark when he sees them outside, so he may do best as the only dog or with slow, thoughtful introductions. We don’t yet know how he would do with children. He can be a little restless in new situations at first, but once he understands he’s safe, he relaxes and shows his true, easygoing nature.

Vetting and Medical

In our care, Pipsqueak has received a vet check, vaccines, a dental exam and major dental cleaning. He’s had his nails trimmed, and is on monthly heartworm preventative. From testing done at UF, Pipsqueak has been diagnosed with dysphagia and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He takes Metoclopramide (½ of a 5mg tablet daily), FortiFlora, and uses GenTeal Tears for his eyes. He does wonderfully with his routine and is such a cooperative little patient. Pipsqueak is also on a prescription digestive care food and will need to continue eating that food.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
