Dog Hydration Recipes

Dog hydration recipes can be an important part of TREAT TIME, especially during the hot hot hot Dog days of Summer! While we all know that our beloved dachshunds need plenty of water to drink, like people, they too can become dehydrated and lose important electrolytes and minerals when it is hot outside.

Florida residents and visitors in particular should pay attention to our pup pals during the hottest time of the year! One simple way to do this is to incorporate a few extra hydrating homemade treats for your dogs.

*If you suspect heat stroke or heat exhaustion, consult your vet or emergency right away! Do not give human remedies (unless otherwise instructed) as that can lead to bigger issues.

Watermelon Coconut treats are easy to make and the dachshunds (mixes and every other dog out there) will go crazy for them. Bonus . . . may also be consumed by the humans in your household!

Watermelon Coconut Treats

Ingredients: 2 cups watermelon and 1/2-3/4 cups coconut water!

Directions: mash or blend up (seedless) watermelon and coconut water and freeze in fun shaped molds or ice cube trays!

It’s truly THAT easy and so very healthy and hydrating!

Frozen Cantaloupe Bites

This simple and yummy treat is also good for the humans as well as your beloved doggos. It could NOT be any easier. . . chop fresh cantaloupe into bite size pieces and lay out on a tray (individually spaced) using a non-stick liner. Place tray in freezer until bites are nice and frozen . . . and then add to a baggie to keep in the freezer. Boom, Bam, and you are a true hero to your furry best friends again!

Enjoy the summer with your dachshunds but pay close attention to hydration needs.
