Meet Adoptable Dachshund Riggs – A Shy Soul Searching for His Safe Place
Riggs is a sweet, sensitive little guy who’s come a long way since arriving at his foster home. This 3-year-old dachshund has been through a lot in his short life, and while his past has left him fearful and shy, he’s been making steady progress every day.

💛 What makes Riggs special?
Riggs bonds deeply once he trusts you. Though it may take him a little while to feel safe around new people, once he’s in, he’s all in. He becomes a total shadow pup — loyal, affectionate, and happiest when curled up by your side (or in your lap, if you’ll let him!).
🏡 The Ideal Home for Riggs
Riggs needs a calm, child-free home where he can be the only pet. While he’s done well meeting other dogs and even lives peacefully with some in his foster home, he has snapped at a few once familiar — likely due to past trauma or insecurity. He’s also very fearful of larger dogs and barks at them out of fear. We don’t know how he would do with cats, so to be safe, a no-pet household is best for him.

🚶♂️ Learning and Growing
Before rescue, Riggs had never walked on a leash or worn a harness — but he’s working hard to catch up! He’s doing really well with leashed walks now and enjoys them, even if they still feel a bit unfamiliar. He’s also making progress with house training and doing much better, though he may need a little patience and consistency in a new environment.
🛏️ His Routine
Riggs is crate-trained and does well in his crate, especially for overnight or when left alone for a few hours (though he may bark a bit at first). He also uses a dog bed and does fine on car rides, whether crated or in a car seat. His foster thinks he’d love the chance to sleep snuggled up with his forever person in bed — something he’s never gotten to do, but surely dreams about.

💔 A Little Trauma, A Lot of Love
Riggs shows no aggression toward people, but it’s clear he’s been hurt in the past — emotionally, if not physically. He is incredibly shy and fearful with new people, but never bites or growls. What he does do is try his best to stay small, quiet, and out of the way… until he feels safe. And once he does? He blossoms into a sweet, loyal companion who wants to be with you 24/7.
