Dachshund Maddie – Pending Adoption, please do not apply!

Adoptable Dachshund Maddie: a smart, confident, and very lovable 10-year-old standard Dachshund weighing about 20 pounds. Maddie has a wonderful personality and truly enjoys being around people. She’s friendly and curious when meeting new visitors and will often seek them out on her own.

Not shy or timid, Maddie knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to use her voice when she’s feeling a little bossy 😄 but she’s not an excessive barker and mostly joins in only when other dogs bark. She loves being petted and held on her terms, and one of her sweetest habits is pressing her face close to yours and “grunt-talking” to communicate.

Maddie’s Forever Home Checklist ✅:
– A calm, loving home that appreciates her independence, intelligence, and affectionate nature
– A home without children (she is food aggressive but making progress)

Maddie is comfortable around other dogs and is generally indifferent to them. She may be slow to warm up, but she doesn’t mind sharing space and will calmly stand her ground if another dog gets pushy. She hasn’t been around large dogs, cats, or children in her foster home, so her reactions to them are unknown.

Maddie is food-protective, but this has improved significantly with a consistent feeding routine of twice-daily meals and periodic snacks. With proper management, she does well and continues to make progress.

She is mostly house-trained and prefers indoor potty pads, which she shares nicely with another dachshund. Maddie will use the floor if a pad is too wet, so fresh pads are important. She is not crate trained but does great sleeping in a dog bed or cuddled up with her foster and she’s perfectly content sleeping on her own as well. Maddie enjoys car rides, loves spending time in a fenced yard, and does fine on a leash when she wants to go, though her leash experience has mainly been limited to vet visits.

Maddie is a clever girl who understands several verbal commands and hand gestures. She enjoys simple pleasures like rolling around on a rug (with a reminder not to pee on it!) and soaking up affection from her people.

Vetting and Medical

In our care, Maddie has received a vet check, vaccines, a dental exam and major dental cleaning. She’s had her nails trimmed, and is on monthly heartworm preventatives.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
