Adoptable Dachshund Cecilia (CC) is 2 years old and 9 pounds. Cecilia is one of those little dogs who makes you stop and say, “Oh my goodness, she’s beautiful.” And she is. But CC is also something more tender and complicated – a tiny survivor from the Jacksonville 28 who is still learning that the world can be safe.
Cecilia’s (CC) Forever Home Checklist ✅
CC will need a very special home, please read thoroughly BEFORE applying.
– A quiet home with a single woman or a quiet, female-only home
– Experience with sensitive dogs
– A home without a lot of visitors
– A home without children

CC is deeply shy and fearful of new people, especially men. She is not aggressive, but she freezes, hides, and will bark continuously until she feels safe – usually when held by her trusted person. Visitors are hard for her. Busy households are hard for her. Shared walls or apartments would be overwhelming. When frightened (like at the vet or with strangers), she may urinate or defecate out of fear. She sometimes needs help settling and has used trazodone on occasion to take the edge off her anxiety, though it does not fully stop the barking.
Despite more than two months in foster care, she has made only slow progress with the male member of the household. Because of this, her ideal home would be with a single woman or a quiet, female-only home experienced with sensitive dogs. She will not thrive in a home with small children. She is a flight risk, will need patience while adjusting, and will require someone committed to continuing her training and building her confidence at her pace.

CC has the softest eyes and the biggest heart – once she decides it belongs to you. Cecilia is a true velcro dog. When she bonds, she bonds hard. She will follow her person anywhere, happily trail behind you in the yard, and burrow under the covers for snuggle time. Tunneling is her happy place – give this girl a blanket or a cozy bed and she will disappear into it with pure contentment.
CC lives peacefully with a standard dachshund and even a large German Shepherd, and she welcomes other dogs into the home with quiet acceptance. She’s not quite playful yet, but she clearly enjoys canine company – big dogs included. She shows no prey drive and could potentially live with a dog-savvy cat. She greets new dogs kindly (even the neighbor’s pup!) and does well when left home with her dog friends. A peanut butter–filled Kong and some cozy crate time keep her content.

Her house training is excellent. She asks to go outside and uses the doggie door to a fenced yard (always supervised, of course). She rides fairly on leash and loves to follow her person, though her timid nature means she doesn’t get frequent walks yet. Car rides make her nervous at first, but once settled, she enjoys peeking out the window.
She loves belly rubs, is learning to play with toys, adores chicken (truly her favorite), and becomes wonderfully food-motivated once she feels safe. She gardens beside her person in the yard, soaks up the sunshine, and will happily curl into you at night.
Vetting and Medical
In our care, CC has received a vet check, vaccines, nail trimming, flea treatment, heartworm testing and monthly medication and has also been spayed.
We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
