Adoptable Dachshund Jack – (Pending Adoption, please don’t apply)

Adoptable Dachshund Jack is a 4-year-old, 9-pound dachshund with the biggest heart tucked inside a shy little body. He may not be the life of the party, but once he feels safe and trusts you, he becomes the ultimate cuddle bug and loyal shadow.

Jack is from the Jacksonville 28 we rescued. He is a gentle, timid guy who prefers calm environments and respectful introductions. He enjoys the company of other dogs (big dogs included!) but isn’t much of a player – he’s more of a “happy to coexist” kind of pup. He also does wonderfully with cats and shows no interest in chasing them.

STOP HERE – we know Jack is VERY cute but please read through his entire profile BEFORE applying.
Jack’s Forever Home Checklist ✅:
✔️
A home without children, would do okay with kids 12 & up who understand boundaries
✔️As mentioned, Jack is from the Jacksonville 28 we rescued, they are VERY skittish and are potential flight risks. He should never be left unsupervised and should always be walked on a harness.
✔️A family who is okay with Jack not being fully house trained yet and can provide belly bands while he continues his training.
✔️ A home where someone is around most of the time or with another calm dog to help him feel secure.

When it comes to people, Jack is cautious at first. He will bark when meeting new people but settles quickly and prefers his space until he decides you’re part of his inner circle. Because he can be fear-nippy if startled, Jack would do best in a home with kids 12 and up who understand how to respect a dog’s boundaries.

Jack walks well on a leash and does best using a harness. He enjoys his walks and car rides, though for safety he should always be crated or securely buckled – he can be a flight risk if he gets scared.

He is crate trained, though he does have a bit of FOMO (fear of missing out) and may bark if he can hear his people nearby. At bedtime, Jack is happy to sleep in a dog bed or snuggle up with his foster. He isn’t fully house trained yet, but he does great with belly bands.

Jack may growl around other dogs when food is involved, but he has never bitten and shows no food aggression toward people. He also isn’t bothered by thunder or loud noises.

Because Jack does show signs of anxiety, he would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time or with another calm dog to help him feel secure. He does bark at new noises and unfamiliar people, so a patient, understanding adopter will be key.

Vetting and Medical

In our care, Jack has received a vet check, vaccines, nail trimming, heartworm testing and flea treatment. He is on monthly heartworm preventatives and has been neutered. While in our rescue, Jack also received a dental cleaning.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
