Dachshund Cookie – Pending Adoption (please do not apply!)

Meet Adoptable Dachshund Cookie: a 2-year-old, 14-pound Dachshund with the softest heart and the sweetest little wiggle once she knows she’s safe.

Cookie previously lived with several other dogs and would likely do well with a canine companion again. We believe she may have even shared space with a larger dog in the past.

She does “okay” on a leash but hasn’t had much experience, and while she’ll take short walks, she truly prefers the comfort of familiar spaces like her home and backyard. Cookie is still building confidence in new environments and needs a patient family who understands that the world can feel a little big to her at first.

Cookie’s Forever Home Checklist ✅:
– Preferably a home with another dog
– A home with a fenced in backyard
– A patient home who will give her the opportunity to gain confidence slowly

Cookie is wonderfully house trained – an absolute A++ girl. Her foster has complete confidence in her, and she typically only needs to go out two to three times a day.

She loves her crate and often goes in on her own, sleeping soundly through the night without a peep. She also enjoys her cozy dog bed and currently sleeps in her crate (though we suspect she’d happily snuggle up in bed with her human if invited). She is not food or toy aggressive and has lovely house manners.

New people and new places can make Cookie nervous. She may bark when meeting someone new and often retreats to her crate or playpen to feel safe. She shows signs of anxiety in unfamiliar situations, but she does not have separation anxiety and does just fine when left home alone. Car rides make her a little unsure, but she’ll gladly curl up in your lap for reassurance and settles in nicely.

The most beautiful thing about Cookie is who she becomes once she feels secure. She blossoms into the happiest, sweetest little companion.

Her tail is almost always wagging, she adores being near her person, and she’ll flop over instantly for belly rubs.

She enjoys short games of fetch, but her absolute favorite pastime is cuddling close.

Vetting and Medical

In our care, Cookie has received a vet check, vaccines, dental exam, nail trimming, heartworm testing and is on monthly heartworm preventatives. Cookie has also been spayed and had surgery to repair a hernia.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
