Adoptable Dachshund Petey LOVES people and likes nothing more than to sit quietly with you and stare lovingly into your eyes. He will play with toys and loves to walk on the leash. He is a beautiful, happy, loving and good-natured dog. Petey is not snappy nor shows any signs of aggression.
Petey has moderate separation anxiety when left alone but is improving with time, patience and consistency. He now sleeps through the night with the other dogs in an enclosed area behind a baby gate. Petey and will stay in a crate during the day for shorter periods for shopping and doctor appointments.
Adoptable Dachshund Petey is very much a family dog and would do fine with children who understand basic pet treatment. He loves to walk and is very well-behaved on a leash as he heels like a champ. Petey doesn’t react to moving vehicles or other dogs. He drinks a lot of water and does well with regular bathroom breaks.
Petey has been working hard on his crate training and with some special accommodations is much improved. He would do best in a home where he was not left alone for longer periods of time or a home with multiple people so someone is always around. Petey has responded best to behavior modification strategies like a noise bark collar, TV or radio on when no one is home, and the company of other dogs.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
