Adoptable Dachshund Jasper – is such a love! 3 year old Jasper takes his time warming up to his human, but once he does, he’s all yours! Jasper is a diamond in the RUFF! He is very shy, so it’ll take a bit to trust you, but he’ll reward you with a million kisses once he’s there! His record is 100 kisses per minute, but he wants to break that record with you!

King of His Castle
Jasper has gotten along well with his foster sister and foster brother pups, for the most part. He did snap at the older one unprovoked, and the other has become quite timid around him. He is fed seperately from the other dogs. Jasper has shown some guarding behavior with toys but nothing that couldn’t be corrected easily. It would definitely have to be the right combination of personalities and an experienced dog owner to help him settle in with other dogs. He would most likely perfer to be an only pup! In our care he has not been around any big dogs or cats.

Learning New Tricks – Yard Dog
Jasper has had very limited exposure to the leash. His prior owner never had a collar or harness on him, so he is just now getting comfortable with those two things. He walked a few steps on the leash attached to the harness while at the vet but then had to be picked up and carried to the car because he wouldn’t walk outside on the leash. He never wore a collar or harness before coming to us, so he’s still getting used to that. A fenced yard is important for Jasper and it would be great for him to continue practicing on the leash. He’s sure to be a pro on the leash in no time!
House Training
Jasper is doing very well with his house training but still needs work. He does use puppy pads but will also have a few accidents here and there. He will ALWAYS potty outside when taken out, so he probably just needs a bit more time and training. He’s about 90% of the way there. The adopter would probably want to use belly bands for a bit at first.

Meeting New People
Jasper takes a long time to warm up to people. When he meets someone knew, he’s very (VERY) barky and takes kind of a defensive stance, but I think it’s more fear than aggression. He does quite down after a while, but if the new person moves, the cycle starts all over again. Jasper will tuck his tail and make himself really small when approached, and he will pee a little. He’s very submissive, especially during the first few weeks. He does start coming out of his shell and becoming more confident and doesn’t always do that when approached after a bit of time with you.
Jasper does not like the crate at all. He does much better in a room designated as his while he decompresses. He is not destructive, so he’s okay to be left out in a room with a baby gate up and with his food, water, and puppy pads in there with him.
Diamond in the RUFF!
Although this young male still needs more training, he is learning quickly. A patient and understanding dog owner is needed to show him the right way to be a dog. He’s doxie stubborn but he’s also doxie smart and sweet!

Adoptable Dachshund Jasper – 3 yrs, 15 lbs
Adoptable Dachshund Jasper is a funny boy and loves to play with his toys. He loves to roll around in the grass in the backyard and watch the birds and soak in the sunshine! He’s doing great with his house training but will need someone who can continue to work with him and keep him on a schedule. Jasper is very smart and seems to be very trainable. He’s working on learning to walk on the leash but is hoping for a yard! Once you find a treat he likes, he’s all ears! Jasper seems to like dogs initially, then becomes a little selective, so he might be best in an only dog home where he can have all of your attention. He also might like to have his human home with him most of the time to keep him company. Although he does well when left alone, it’s very apparent that he prefers the company of his human! Adoption Fee $350

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
