Adoptable Dachshund Hershey – Adopted

Adoptable Dachshund Hershey is a quiet girl and mostly just wants to take short walks, ride around town with the window down, and loves to visit the neighbors while in her stroller.

Adoptable Dachshund Hershey

Hershey indifferent towards other dogs.   She is fine around kids, and had experience with a 4 year old.  Hershey is fine on a leash; however, she prefers to guide the walk. She will keep up a pace, but she is a stop and sniff kind of gal. Hershey will go to the door when she is ready to go out.  Hershey needs to be an only pet, and never be crated.

Adoptable Dachshund Hershey had a episode of wetting her bed during the night (3 to 4 times per week). Her foster had taken her from several times a night to once per night and now before midnight at this writing. She has had no more issues. Hershey’s bed wetting may have been be due to her spine, aging or health. She had finished a round of antibiotics and her steroids are decreasing. Her health is greatly improving,  and she is going 7 or more hours without needing to go out.

Hershey needs to lose a little weight. The steroids makes her hungry so she
will snap treats rather abruptly. She was gentle accepting treats beforehand. Hershey was taking antibiotics for dental so maybe she was gentle because possibly her mouth hurt.  Her foster has been working on accepting treats gently. As she is getting healthier, Hershey is enjoying playing with her ball and stuffie. She very much likes to ride in vehicles. Hershey will wait at the car door to go. She sometimes just wants to sit in the rear seat alone, and other times she wants to sit in her foster’s lap and put her head out the window.

Hershey’s Personality

Adoptable Dachshund Hershey has been wonderful meeting people. She easily passes a dog with no interest.  She is confident, licks herself, people and objects. This did not appear until she was medicated. Hershey may pant but her foster is unsure if it’s pain or anxiety medication. Her panting has been decreasing since her steroids have decreased. Hershey was fine with New Year’s fireworks. She will bark a little bit when left alone, but soon settles down and sleeps.

Adoptable Dachshund Hershey is very guarded in the beginning. She is now quite spunky, and will play ball but prefers to just roll it back. Hershey absolutely enjoys being brushed daily as well as getting her face washed each morning. Hershey prefers to have two beds, one which is near the door or under my feet. She has been left alone to free roam up to 6 hours with no problem.

Hershey has had her Senior Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary -like for acute infection), Minor Surgery (such as removal of benign cyst), Nail Trim, Heart Worm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal).
