Adoptable Dachshund Herman is 1 year old and 16 pounds.
Looking for a fun-loving, goofy, and affectionate companion? Herman is the most loving and playful pup around! He is full of energy, charm, and endless tail wags.
Herman absolutely adores other small dogs and is always ready to play the second he meets a new furry friend! He hasn’t been around larger dogs or cats in foster care, but when he sees cats on walks, he seems curious and playful (we just haven’t tested it up close).

Herman’s Forever Home Checklist ✅:
- A home where his human(s) are home often because he has separation anxiety.
- A home where he can sleep in the bed with his humans.
- He’d do best in a home with another small, playful dog and someone who’s home most of the time.
- A fenced yard would be a bonus so he can run off his puppy energy safely.
⭐About Herman:
- Personality:
- Herman loves meeting new people and small dogs – his tail doesn’t stop wagging, and he’s always ready with kisses! We’re working on reducing his “jump for joy” greetings, but those kisses are here to stay.
- While Herman is outgoing, he’s also a bit timid. Quick movements or loud voices can startle him, and he may cower or hide. His foster family is helping him learn that he’s safe and loved and his new family will need to continue showing him gentle reassurance and patience.
- Kids: Herman loves children, especially those who will give him all their attention and play with his favorite toys. He’s happiest when surrounded by people who love to love him!
- Cuddle Champion: Herman would much rather snuggle up in the big bed with his humans and foster sister. He’s a total lovebug who sleeps as close as possible to you.
- No Food or Toy Aggression: Herman is super gentle. He loves sharing and waiting his turn. He just wants to be part of the fun and play with whatever toy his foster sister has.
- Car Rides: Car rides are one of Herman’s favorite things! Beware: the second you grab your keys and ask, “Wanna go for a ride?” he’s ready to hop right in, no matter how high the car is.
- Leash & Walk Pro: Herman is doing great on a leash and loves his daily walks. He’s full of curiosity and wants to be friends with everyone he meets, people and small dogs alike! Sometimes he gets distracted chasing lizards (they’re his arch-nemesis), but he’s learning to stay close to his human.

Still Working on House Training
Herman has been making great progress with house training in his foster home! He’s learning to let his humans know when he needs to go out. With a consistent schedule and some patience, he’ll be fully trained in no time.
Mild Separation Anxiety
Herman does best when someone is home most of the time. If left alone too long, he might take his frustration out on his toys (or a stray shoe), but this happens only occasionally. He just loves being near his people and feels safest when you’re around.
Barking Habits
Herman isn’t much of a barker, he usually joins in only if his foster sister starts it first.

Vetting and Medical
In our care, Herman has received vet checks, vaccines, a dental exam, and a nail trimming. Herman came to us from Tennessee and something in the Florida grass gives him some allergies so his foster mom bathes him with an over-the-counter medicated shampoo!
We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!
