Adoptable Dachshund Dexter – Adopted

Adoptable Dachshund Dexter…Our One-Eyed Wonder!

Dexter is a 5-year-old dachshund weighing 22 lbs, and he’s ready to charm his way into his forever home! This sweet boy may be missing one eye due to an old injury, but that just makes him extra special—like he’s always winking at you. 💕

Dexter is a gentle, happy, and snuggly pup who loves nothing more than curling up on the couch or in bed for cuddles. He’s also crate-trained but also enjoys his own doggy bed. He is a pro at wearing his harness and walks beautifully on a leash.

Dexter came from a pretty rough home before joining us, and like many dogs from neglectful situations, he picked up some habits to survive. One of those is eating poop (either his own or from other dogs). The good news? Since being in foster care, Dexter has had zero accidents in the house, and this habit hasn’t been an issue with regular potty breaks. With patience and consistency, this is something his forever family can easily manage.

My Forever Home Checklist ✅:

  • A home where he would be a solo pup or a family with one playful but gentle dog companion
  • A home without cats

 ✨ Dexter’s Personality & Preferences:

  • Gets along well with other dogs (he’s submissive, so he’d do best with one easygoing playmate close to his age).

  • Shy at first but warms up quickly, then loves to play and be part of the fun.

  • Good with kids 12+ (he isn’t comfortable with very young children tugging on ears or tail).

  • Cats aren’t really his favorite—he sometimes barks and growls at them.

  • Rides in the car make him a little nervous at first, but he settles in.

  • No food or toy aggression.

  • Doesn’t bark excessively and has no separation anxiety.

  • Bonus: he’s the best little alarm clock and always greets the day with a wagging tail.

Vetting and Medical

In our care, Dexter has received a vet check, vaccines, a dental exam, medication for an acute infection, heartworm testing and his monthly heartworm preventative.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

Adoptable Dachshund Dexter – 5 years, 22 lbs

Dexter is looking for a loving home where he can continue to shine. Ideally, he’d love a home with one playful but gentle dog companion and a family who will give him the love and patience he deserves. He’s truly a big, loveable teddy bear with the happiest outlook despite his rough start. Once you meet him, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without his winks and wiggles. Adoption fee: $300.

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
