Adoptable Dachshund BT – (Pending Adoption, please don’t apply)

Adoptable Dachshund BT is 2 years old and 11 pounds. BT (stands for black and tan) is a gentle, sweet dachshund who is slowly learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. She came from the Jacksonville 28 case and has made remarkable progress and continues to improve every single day.

Once shy and fearful, BT has learned her name and now seeks out affection from her foster family. She loves to snuggle on the couch, sleep cuddled up with her foster parents, and curl up with her foster dachshund sisters. She’s even starting to enjoy toys and zooming around with the other dogs in her foster home – a big milestone for this brave girl.

BT’s Forever Home Checklist✅ :
✔️A calm, patient home
✔️An escape-proof fenced yard or a family committed to harness-and-leash-only outdoor time
✔️Experience with shy or anxious dogs (or willingness to learn!)
✔️A gentle routine and plenty of time to build trust
✔️A home without children
✔️Loves the company of other dogs so a sibling would be ideal!

🐶 Personality & Social Skills:
– Dogs: Gets along well with other dogs and has warmed up beautifully to her foster sisters
– People: Very shy with new people; took a few weeks to feel safe with her foster family. She will need patient, understanding adopters who allow her to warm up at her own pace
– Children: Not recommended for homes with small children due to noise and activity levels
– Cats: Unknown

 🚶‍♀️ Training & Care:
– Leash & Walks: Doing well on leash and improving daily, but must always be walked using a harness — she can slip out of a collar and may choke herself if walked without one
– House Training: Not fully house trained yet, but very smart and making steady progress with consistent outdoor routines
– Crate Training: Not crate trained, though she was calm and quiet during 30-minute car rides in a crate
– Sleeping: Sleeps in a dog bed and also cuddles with her foster parents

💕 Special Considerations:
– BT has some lingering anxiety and will bark when startled or when separated from her foster dad. She does best with reassurance and routine.
– She may cry or bark when her favorite human leaves, but this improves as she continues to feel secure.
BT is a foodie and may try to sneak other dogs’ meals – especially chicken or wet food – but has shown no food or toy aggression.

Vetting and Medical

In our care, BT has received a vet check, vaccines, a dental exam, and nail trimming. She is on monthly heartworm preventatives and has been spayed.

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
