Adoptable Dachshund Harley 3 – Adopted

Adoptable dachshund Harley 3 is an 11 year old, 16 pound bundle of joy! He’s a sweetheart who very much needs a pack. Harley likes to be part of the crew, and wouldn’t do well as an only dog. He wants and needs to be close to his foster brothers and will invite himself on their beds whether they want him there or not!

He’s excellent on leash and will look up at you whenever you slow or stop as if to see what your instructions will be. Harley is a smart boy who has never had an accident in the house. He has no sense of urgency first thing in the morning.

Harley absolutely hates the crate although with time, in his forever home, with lots of work, he could be persuaded if absolutely necessary. He has no food or toy aggression but can be a little bit possessive of his toys.

Harley loves everyone although he will “lower” his head sometimes when someone reaches out to pet him until he knows it’s a friendly gesture and not anything else. He has some separation anxiety but has made HUGE progress once he felt secure and trusting of his situation and as long as he is in a home with other dogs and people who are home most of the time. Would not do well left for long periods.

Harley has made huge strides in this area. He sleeps in the designated dog area at night and will stay quietly in that area during the day if with his pack. He no longer cries if his foster mom goes outside without him and will sit patiently in the dog area and wait even though the gate is not closed. Harley is currently taking Prozac to help with his anxiety but could probably be weaned off (under vet supervision) once he is settled and trusting in his new home. He barks mostly when prompted by his foster pack and at passing golf carts, he doesn’t bark excessively.

Summary – 11 years old, 16 pounds

Harley is 90% fabulous and 10% special needs. He is a beautiful black/tan smooth coat that is reported to be 11 years old but looks and acts much younger. Harley has some separation anxiety issues but has made huge progress in his foster home and will now stay behind the baby gate both at bedtime and during the day when his foster parents need to run errands.

Harley is definitely a pack dog and will need a home with other dogs and people who are home most of the time. He loves his toys, but they must the industrial strength kind as he will quickly destroy anything soft. He would enjoy a yard but it’s not necessary and he is kind of laid back. Harley is well behaved on leash and waits his turn for meals and treats. Harley has never shown any aggression towards anything or anyone. Harley’s motto is “all you need is Love”

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
