Adoptable Dachshund Willie – Adopted

Adoptable dachshund Willie is an overall happy boy so as long as he is with you, he does great with people and dogs alike. He is such a sweet dog that it is likely he would be fine around children of all ages.

He came to LRDR in 2020 and was adopted to a wonderful couple who cared and loved him very much. Unfortunately, Willie was returned to LRDRFL in November at no fault of his own; his daddy died, and mom is going into a health care that will not allow Willie to be with her.

Despite his ‘crooked’ walk because of damaged ribs and hips which are unknown as to why, he is full of energy. He’s a healthy young-at-heart dog as he approaches his senior years. Technically, he’s not yet a senior dog.

Willie has some separation anxiety and is most happy when he is in the same room as his foster mom or dad. He otherwise doesn’t show signs of anxiety. Willie doesn’t bark excessively. He dreams of a home where someone is with him most of the time.

He’s a happy dog who gets along with others very well. He has never shown any signs of food or toy aggression. Willie likes car rides. There is a cat in his foster home, whom he basically ignores.

He is potty trained and has control of his urine. However due to his spine problem he has no control over his bowl movement. Thus, it’s important to take him out frequently, he will also bark to let you know. Sometimes, when he barks, he has a little accident (hard stool) but it’s very easy to clean up.

In our care he has received: Vet Check, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Spay or Neuter, Minor Surgery (such as removal of benign cyst), Skin treatments/ infections, Nails Trimmed, Heart Worm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal)

Willie had 11 teeth removed on the 11th of December. Willie is healing and back on hard kibble. There are two meds that he will continue to need: Gabapentin, 50mg which is for pain for his damaged hips and Apoquel for allergies.

Willie slept with his previous owner in the bed with a small waterproof pad in case he had an accident, however, we have no room on our bed, so he is in dog bed. Willie has never had an accident in the dog bed.
