Adoptable Dachshund Maxwell- Adopted

Adoptable Dachshund Maxwell

Eight-year-old Maxwell came to Low Rider due to no fault of his own. His previous owner was elderly and could no longer care for him. He was the only dog in a quiet house, and it seems that is the environment he is used to. When he arrived at his foster home, Maxwell adjusted to the other foster dogs in the home since they were resident dogs. That being said, Maxwell does not do well when visitors (human and dogs) visit the home. He is territorial and needs much patience, correction and understanding. He will bark, nip at their heels and chase guests. Foster mom believes with the right training and consistency, this could be corrected.

Other than Maxwell’s territorial behavior, he is an easy dog in the home. He is 100% potty pad trained and will go outside to potty if offered. He is crate trained if need be, only barks for a little bit but then settles into his crate. He will also snuggle with you in the big bed if allowed. He hasn’t shown any signs of aggression with toys or food towards the other resident dogs in the home. Maxwell isn’t anxious when left home alone and loud noises/fireworks/thunder doesn’t bother him if he is in his safe place, home.

We are unsure of how Maxwell would respond to small children in the home and cats, since this hasn’t been observed. As stated previously, he lived in a quiet home with one person. Maxwell rides well in a car and walks well on leash in a neighborhood. If he is in an environment outside of the home, where it is “too busy” or loud, Maxwell is skittish. He is shy towards meeting new people outside of the home.

His favorite things to do is eat, take long naps on the couch and cuddle with you! Even though he is eight, Maxwell still has a lot of spunk in him and likes to play with toys, especially tug-of-war. Foster mom says, “Maxwell is best described as a one family dog and once you have accepted him into your family, he will devote himself 100% to being your little man of the house”.

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
