Adoptable Dachshund Matlock is 2 years old and 14 pounds. Matlock has not been exposed to other dogs except his brothers. When he sees other dogs he barks excessively and does not stop until he is removed from the scene. We believe it could be beneficial to the dogs to be adopted separately, but are willing to adopt them together. See Fletcher’s profile HERE.
He hadn’t been trained with a leash but has made great improvements. He is learning every day! Matlock is very curious and wants to explore everything, just needs more practice.
He is crate trained, but needs encouragement. He will go into the crate on command “crate” sleeps in crate, and stays in crate when foster mom leaves the house for an hour or so. Never left longer than that.
Matlock sleeps and naps in his crate. Although he barks when other dogs approach, he shows no signs of aggression and plays well with his brother. He could easily learn another dog is a friend and would settle in with people who can be patient with him and will take the time to teach him and help him feel secure.
He has only traveled a couple times in the car while in crate. He barks, but finally calms down after a few minutes. Both Matlock and his brother, Fletcher, need practice and exposure to more people and other dogs. They need practice with walking on the leash and general training. They are learning to come when called, sometimes they need to be coaxed with treats, but there is progress. General training and socialization will need to continue in his new home.
There is some separation anxiety when leaving. Matlock stays in a crate while foster mom goes out (never more that 2 hours). He barks for a few mins but then settles down.

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
