Adoptable Mix Ida Mae gets along great with other dogs, if properly introduced. Ida Mae is a dominant woman! She is a sweetheart though and wants to please her person.
It’s likely that very young children would frighten her and there would need to be supervision, but older kids should not be an issue. Ida Mae enjoys walking on the leash and is good at it. She tends to bark at those who pass by (NOT uncommon for dachshund breed) but is easily re-directed. Her foster qualifies her as “good on walks.”
Ida Mae is house trained and can also use a dog door. She is crate trained and views her crate as a positive environment (as it should be). Accustomed to sleeping in her dog bed, it’s likely that she would also enjoy sleeping in the big bed with her person.
Like many good dogs, Ida Mae will growl but does not bite or fight over things. She plays well with Toys with other dogs, just not her food. This is not uncommon, especially when bringing a new dog into the home.
Ida Mae loves car rides! Friendly when meeting new people, it’s important to introduce her slowly so that she feels comfortable. She was a stray so she’s still learning to trust. Once introduced she is a total love bug!
Similarly, when meeting new dogs, it’s important that she feel comfortable and goes slowly. Because of her past as a stray, she needs that time to feel secure. She will bark at first, but settles down once she realizes she is safe. Her foster mom didn’t feel that it was enough to qualify as anxiety because she is doing so well.
Ida Mae is not an excessive barker, though she is (like any good dachshund or mix) faithful to let you know when someone approaches the house to make a delivery! She does not show any signs of separation anxiety.
In our care she has received: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Spay or Neuter, Skin treatments/ infections, Nails Trimmed, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication.
Mix Ida Mae – 3 yrs, 16 lbs
Ida Mae is a sweet and loving little girl. Love’s all the attention she can get. Playful, clever and will be the first to steal your slippers! She loves to be wherever her person is. She loves nyla bones but will destroy soft toys. She does great with other dogs and people if introduced slow. She will bark out of fear. She was a stray and was treated poorly. She loves to be held and play bite or play tug of war. She will bring much joy and laughter to her new family! She is ready for a family of her own. *Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
