Adoptable Mix Cody – Pending Adoption

Adoptable mix Cody came to LRDRFL with a badly broken femur. We believe he had been hit by a car. He had the surgery to fix it and spent eight weeks on strict pen rest and four additional weeks with some restrictions still in place. He walks on the leg like a pro and the vet was super happy about how it healed, but it is something to always keep in mind.

Cody

Cody is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Cody came to the rescue hurting so badly and was never anything less than an absolute angel towards anyone and anything despite how much pain he had to be in. He took the months of pen rest like a pro and has been having the time of his life finally getting to be a normal dog again and do things like lay on the couch, go for walks, go in the backyard unleashed, etc.

Adoptable mix Cody

He has so much joy for all these little things since he had to go without them for such long. He is the best companion- he loves taking long walks, laying in a dog bed next to his human, laying outside on the lounger, etc. He’s just so content and so happy to be living life like a normal dog and getting to spend time with his people.

Cody shows no signs of separation anxiety and can be left alone for up to 8 hours a day. He can be a little nervous and submissive, but has never been aggressive. A lot of times, he’ll just lay on his belly and let the other dogs sniff him. After a few minutes, he gets comfortable and will start playing but always takes the more submissive role.

We don’t think he was exposed to much prior to coming to the rescue and then was not exposed to much during his months on crate rest, so the world is kind of still new to him. He can be really shy meeting new people, meeting new dogs, and going new places.

Adoptable mix Cody

Although shy, he is always sweet and warms up quickly. He can be a bit nervous at first and sometimes will do a nervous pee when getting in the car. We always use belly bands with him in the car for this reason. He relaxes after a few minutes of driving.

Cody is used to sleeping in his large pen. He would absolutely love to sleep in bed with his adopters! He hasn’t used a traditional crate, but is well accustomed to his pen.

He loves walks! He used to be scared of anything and everything on walks, but we’ve been working towards desensitizing him towards the different things and he’s made so much progress. Cody has been walking up to 2 miles at a time twice a day and just loves it. Though he loves walks, he get spooked by a loud car coming near or a dog barking so he requires a harness as opposed to a collar.

It doesn’t seem like he had much experience with other dogs prior to coming to the rescue, so he can be a little nervous and submissive with other dogs. Once he warms up to them, he really enjoys playing!

In our care he has recieved: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Spay or Neuter, Major Surgery (such as cancer tumor removal), Nails Trimmed, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication.
