Adoptable Doxie Otto – Adopted

Adoptable doxie Otto is a super cute and playful dog. He has just recently learned how to play with toys and everyday seems like an adventure to him.

Otto loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. He is working on learning commands like “stay” and “let’s go” and “sit”. He would make the best friend to follow around and play with.

His foster parents say, “When we first got him he didn’t seem to mind being left at home and he started to not want to go in the crate when we left so we left him loose in the house with the other dogs. Over time after getting used to us he began barking when he was left out in the house. I think this is separation anxiety now that he is attached to his foster dad. We have started to try and crate him again when we leave to see if this helps with this issue.”

Otto will bark appropriately if someone comes in the house he doesn’t know, and he will bark in the window if no one is home, we are trying to get him to be used to being crated when we aren’t home to help.

He is very nervous and timid around new people, especially women. His initial reaction to women seems to be fear. When new people or dogs approach, he will bark (more in fear than as a warning) and will hide behind the nearest male friend he is familiar with.

Otto also shows fear when you tell him to come here. We have been using “Let’s go” to get him to come to us. When you say “come here” he will obey, but he cowers to the floor and pees the whole way. The words come here seem to be a trauma trigger for him. With time, patience, and a stable environment, it’s likely we will see improvement in this area.

He has shown no aggression with anything, he likes to play so he will try and take a toy from another dog, but if they don’t want to let him have it he shows no aggression.

Otto is crate trained. As a matter of fact, he really enjoys his crate and goes in it with his toys often when its opened and we are at home, he doesn’t like to be put in it when you’re leaving the house he does fine loose in the house but if he needed to be crated when someone left he would just have to be worked with.

He is house trained, he does pee when he is scared or over excited, but once he is used to you he will stop doing that.

Otto enjoys going for walks and does good on a leash but will occasionally try to back out of his collar if the leash is on collar and not harness.

He loves to ride in the car. When you stop the car he likes to stick his head out the window, but will come lay next to you once the car starts going again.

Otto loves to cuddle under the covers and be rubbed, he will sleep in a dog bed on the floor as well. His ideal situation is a male friend or a couple who can spend plenty of time with him, possibly even retired or working from home. This little guy is a joyful and playful companion.
