Adoptable Dachshund Izzy

Adoptable Dachshund Izzy is a sweet little girl. She loves hugs and kisses and belly rubs. She is a very affectionate dog and enjoys cuddling and being on one’s lap – she thinks she’s lap dog!

Izzy is a wonderful watch dog and sounds much larger than she is. When visitors approach the door, she is on guard duty and is very serious about her job. Her foster mom has been working with her. We wouldn’t say that she’s friendly meeting new people because when meeting them at the door, she barks as if she will tear them apart. Her foster mom is working on having her sit and giving a treat, the person enters the house at this point and walks into the next room. Izzy is much calmer at this point but still barks. We’re working on having more people come into the house to practice sitting when guest arrives.

She also enjoys chasing the lizards in the back yard and will spend the entire day outside providing her person is nearby (doing yard work or reading a book). She likes the dog park where she can socialize with other dogs her size and walks well on a leash. She is very obedient and comes when called except when she sees another person or animal. That’s a bit too distracting for our girl Izzy!

Izzy has recently been vetted including, Vet Check, Dental Exam, Medication (permanent – like for seizure treatment), Nails Trimmed, Heart Worm testing and medication.

While we’re not sure if you would call it excessive, she barks when she wants something and usually doesn’t give up until she gets what she wants. It’s mostly appropriate doxie barking. She barks at cars going by, people walking, another dog , my neighbors, however, she stops when told (after a minute).

She maybe a little afraid of thunder but nothing serious. Loud noises in the house, such as something falling with a loud bang, doesn’t seem to bother her. She is a foodie but you can have a snack with her on your lap and she will not reach for it. Food on the floor she considers up for grabs! Fair enough!

Izzy – 8 years – 15 pounds

Izzy is potty trained, but has accidents from time to time. Her foster mom keeps a pee pad on hand in case Izzy needs to go all of a sudden, it has made a difference. She sleeps in a dog bed in the room with her foster and does not use a crate.

With other dogs, she is friendly. She sniffs and lets others sniff her. If a dog is aggressive, she will be aggressive back. Izzy is not a fan of cats and barks at small children. She likes her toys and is young at heart!

Her ideal home is a mature couple or single person who has time to spend with her, works with her on greeting people at the door, doesn’t have lots of small children visiting, and can keep her on her medication. She needs additional work with people coming to the door, and she likes to go on outings. She’s well-behaved on her outings!

Little Izzy likes going for car rides and has become used to visiting the local Home Depot. Izzy’s foster mom has enjoyed her very much as she has a lot of love to give. Her personality and desire to please is obvious!

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
