Adoptable Dachshund Duke is ADOPTED!!! He’s a lot of fun and has a sparkling personality! He is blind due to untreated chronic dry eye and requires drops in each eye twice a day. He takes the drops very well. His hearing is also limited but he does hear some loud sounds.
Adoptable Dachshund Duke
He has no issues with other dogs and likes them. Because of his blindness, he must be with submissive dogs, only sometimes he gets in their personal space without realizing it. It’s important that if other dogs are present in the adoptive home, they be gentle and accepting of his issue.
Small or large dogs should be fine as long as their demeanor is patient and gentle. We don’t know how he responds to cats. Children younger than 5 years old could be a threat to his safety because of his blindness.
Though he prefers to chart his own course rather than be led, he enjoys walks and does well on the leash. He is fully house trained and at his foster home he adjusted well to the doggie door allowing him to go in and out as he pleases.
While he is extremely well-behaved and therefore does not have a reason to be crated, he tolerates his crate for transport well. Duke also enjoys sleeping in his dog bed, but if the truth be told . . . he truly prefers to sleep in the big bed with his humans!
In the foster home with other dogs he is fed separately, however, he would most likely object to a dog trying to share his dinner. There haven’t been any signs of food or toy aggression.
Duke is a lover, not a fighter – He LOVES everyone, dogs and human alike. Since he is blind he would do well with almost any submissive and tolerant dog. His humans will need to watch out for him with other dogs in case they are less than understanding of his blindness.
He shows no signs of anxiety and doesn’t bark excessively. He has always been with another dog, so we’re not sure if as an only dog he would experience separation anxiety or not.
Duke – 10 years old – 13 pounds
Duke is PENDING ADOPTION – He’s a character and this Super Senior is a lot of fun to be around. He loves everyone and he is comical to watch because of his awesome personality. He learned to get around in the house quickly and has no trouble maneuvering wherever he wants to go which includes outside through the dog doors and back in. He loves to be in your lap. He is a younger senior with a lot of life to live and love to give!
If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
