Doxie Mix Winnie

Meet Doxie Mix Winnie! Winnie is 14 years old, weighs approximately 14 pounds, and cannot wait to meet her forever people. Winnie is a very sweet, very calm senior looking for a person (or people) and a home to call her own in her golden years!

Winnie gets along well with other small dogs. She is very laid-back so she mostly keeps to herself but she doesn’t mind hanging around other pups at all. Since coming to the rescue, she has not been around bigger dogs, cats, or children so we are unsure how she would do in a home that has any of those three things. We do think she would do fine with older children who are respectful of dog boundaries as she’s a very calm, relaxed dog.

Winnie enjoys short walks and does well on leash. With her being a senior pup, she does walk slowly and likes to stop a lot but she makes a great companion during her short walks. Winnie is house-trained and has even learned how to use the doggy door in her foster home. She is amazing about following a schedule and when the dog door is closed, she lets her foster mom know if she needs to take a potty break. She does not seem to be crate-trained, but the crate was only tried once at her foster home as she doesn’t need it at all. She has shown no food or toy aggression while in her foster home. She loves her snuffle toy where she is able to forage and dig for the small pieces of kibble in the pockets as a treat- so far, this has been the only toy she is interested in and she keeps it in her bed safe and sound.

Winnie is an independent little girl and prefers sleeping on her own bed throughout the night rather than sleeping with her humans on the big bed. She sleeps soundly all throughout the night! She also shows no signs of separation anxiety, she doesn’t mind spending some time apart from her humans. She is not a big barker, she only ever barks to let her foster family know that she needs to go outside if the doggy door is closed or when she feels that foster mom is running late serving dinner! Winnie loves eating.

Winnie doesn’t mind car rides, she is used to using a doggy car seat and usually just sleeps for most of the ride. She is friendly when it comes to meeting new people and new dogs too!

Vetting and Medical

Health wise, Winnie has some health issues that are important for her future adopter to know. She has stage 2 kidney disease and will require prescription dog food and medication for the remainder of her life.  In addition, she will also need to have her blood work done regularly to monitor this. Winnie also has no teeth, but she doesn’t let this affect her much! She just requires wet food and/or a dry food and wet food mixed with water to make it easier for her to eat.

In our care, Winnie has received all of the following: Vet Check, Dental Exam, Medication (permanent – like for seizure treatment), Nails Trimmed, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal)

We depend on donations from caring people, like you, to make a difference in the lives of dogs. As an all volunteer organization, you can rest assured that the donations go directly to help the dogs. Thank you!

Doxie Mix Winnie – 14 yrs, 13.7 lbs

Winnie would do best with a retired couple or individual who is looking for a quiet companion who won’t ask for much. Ideally, they would be at home most of the time. She seems to do very well in an environment without a lot of stimulation–her former mom had her for 14 years and unfortunately passed away, so she is accustomed to a quieter, less active household. Her foster mom shared with us that she promises Winnie will reward you with her cute little smile, and what her foster mom has perceived as a sense of gratitude after going through the trauma of losing her person of so many years.  Adopting Winnie would definitely be a “win-win” situation for her and her perfect people! Adoption fee $150

If you believe you could provide a safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs’ name on it.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.

The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
