Doxie Chihuahua Mix Aspen
Doxie chihuahua mix Aspen is a tiny 10 pound, 2 year old dog with the body of a miniature dachshund and the head of a chihuahua. Her features are extremely delicate and she has an endearing “eternal puppy face” that will have you loving her from day one.
Aspen is a bundle of joy. She is energetic and fun – without being annoying. She’s a pup who loves to play with you or a little doggie friend. Although, she also enjoys quiet time snuggling on your lap. Like many dachshunds and mixes, she likes to be with you no matter what you do.
She is house trained, and enjoys other dogs. It is unknown as to how she would do with cats. Children over 12 would be a better fit than younger children as she is tiny, yet “fierce” when she plays. Small children might not do as well handling and understanding her, and she needs to be protected.
Aspen came to Low Rider Dachshund Rescue FL with a broken femur bone and required surgery. She still has some healing to do, and needs to be supervised appropriately.
Although a bit shy and timid, it’s important that barking at new arrivals, not be misinterpreted as aggression from this little one. When meeting new people, it is important for her to see that the other dogs in the home are friendly with that person, and she emulates their behavior. Otherwise, it will take time for her to become accustomed to and trust them. Spending time down on the floor at her level will help her feel safer. A fully socialized dog buddy will also help her respond appropriately with new people. Even though she is a little timid, she doesn’t bark excessively, and does not show signs of separation anxiety.
Aspen will sleep in a crate overnight or in bed with you, if allowed. Either way, she loves to have a cover pulled on top so she can burrow away, like a regular doxie! If you have a backyard, she will let you know when she has to go out by going to the door. Because of her injury and recovery, we aren’t entirely sure how she does walking on a leash. It may take time for her to adjust to change, so we recommend that you take her out often.
She is dachshund-like, meaning that this adorable little dog can be a bit stubborn and smart. It will benefit her to have someone who will lovingly, but consistently, lay out the rules for her with conviction. Otherwise, she will likely take over! But all in all, she wants to please you and is looking for her best friend FOREVER.
She would do best with another secure, social, small dog in an active environment where people have time to spend with her. A fenced yard would be also a big plus as she really enjoys that time. Because she is a young and active dog, it’s important for her to have a human companion who is also active and energetic. A doggie sibling who will model good behavior would also be both a good example and a lot of fun for Aspen.
Aspen, with her abundant energy, strong and bright personality, and her adorable little self – will steal your heart!
