Adoptable dachshund Rusty is a lover and very happy go lucky. He loves to be close to his person and is always by your side or sleeping close by. He has a very expressive face and character.
Rusty gets along with other dogs. Although there is no cat in his foster home, it has been reported that he is not a fan of the feline.
He has some separation anxiety which results in panting and whining and barking if not managed. Rusty sleeps through the night in the doggie area with other dogs without issue however will require a home where someone is home most of the time and is willing to work with his anxiety.
He stays behind a gated area with other dogs when foster parents need to go out and uses a BARK COLLAR (NOT SHOCK) to keep him from barking. He also takes medicaiton called Reconcile (doggie Prozac) which helps him.
Pleasant natured Rusty, should be fine around kids. He loves everyone. Older children or children who understand how to behave around dogs would be suitable. Rusty doesn’t like to be picked up and needs special handling when being picked up.
Rusty enjoys the outdoors and walks on leash like a pro, never pulls and is not reactive to stimulus. Loves to go on walks and is very therapeutic in managing his anxiety. He is house and crate trained. Drinks fairly often so routine potty breaks are best. Has never had an accident in the house, including over night. He will go to the door when he needs to potty but also to go outside just because. Though crate trained, it isn’t best for him unless needed for riding in the car.
He’s used to sleeping in his dog bed. He would sleep with foster readily because he is most comfortable at his persons side at all times, however for training and evaluation this was not allowed in foster home.
Neither food, nor toy aggressive, Rusty only showed mild guarding in regarding a toy one time in a small space but does not actually play with toys. He eats his meals in his “area” in the same room as other dogs and does not guard food or intimidate other dogs. They all eat treats in close proximity with each other under supervision. He does not mind if human picks up bowl and will eat out of hand without issue.
Adoptable Dachshund Rusty enjoys being in the car with his human. He prefers to be in your lap, but will ride in a crate. Rusty does show signs of anxiety by panting and whining so he would not be a long distance companion choice.
In our care he has received: Vet Check, Dental Exam, Medication (permanent – like for seizure treatment), Nails Trimmed, Flea Treatments, Heart Worm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal).
Adoptable Dachshund Rusty – 14 yrs, 18 lbs.
Rusty loves to be outside and loves to take walks. Even when a walk is over he loves to just stand outside and soak up the sunshine. He is happy to meet everyone both inside and outside the home and when not alone is a very quiet dog. He is searching for someone who is home a lot and wants to hang out with him and spend time in the yard and going for walks. He is a sweetheart who deserves to live with someone who will love him as much as he loves them. $200 adoption fee

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
