Adoptable Dachshund Mira

Mira has a timid nature and seems to have had some kind of negative experience in the past. She will squat down when approached from above, as if she is in fear.  It’s helpful so approach her slowly, talk to her, and squat down to her level. This instills confidence and will help her feel secure. Although she is timid in this way, she is not an aggressive dog.

She hasn’t been around large dogs, but did make really good friends with a cat.  Mira may bark at dogs at first; however, settles in fine with other dogs in the household. She has really enjoyed her foster sibling, and loves to play!

There are some signs of separation anxiety, and Mira might whine initially when finding herself at home alone, or if you leave the room.  She sleeps in her own dog bed, but she would certainly enjoy sleeping with her human!

Mira

Mira does bark when she hears loud noises, after all, she is a Doxie!  She does well on car rides and should be leashed so that she doesn’t sit on the driver’s lap!

She needs to be directed to do her business on the grass, but is eager to please. Taking her out frequently, will help her avoid accidents.  Also, when outside with other dogs she immediately wants to come back in and will sit at the door waiting. Encouragement and a steady schedule is very helpful.

Mira

Mira had an awful skin condition due to lack of treatment. She had both bacteria and yeast infections in her skin and ears. She has dry eye  (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) and was not being treated for this which was causing her to go blind. She had an ulcer in her left eye. Mira was on many meds for first 5 weeks, but now only on eye drops and ointment which she will need for the rest of her life. She is great at taking her medication, and does not mind her twice weekly baths.

Mira is such a loving dog who wants to please you by minding well and giving you lots of kisses. She adores squeaky toys a lot and delights in playing with them. Mira would do fine in a home with other dogs or being the only fur-child.
