Meet Senior Dachshund Louie! Louie is an 11 year old dachshund who weighs 14 pounds, and can be best described as a stage 5 clinger! He’s a VELCRO Champion! He is happiest when he is with his people, whether that be following you around the house, going out on the town, or cuddling on the couch. Don’t let his age fool you, Louie loves to play fetch with squeaky toys and go on long walks. Louie is just a loyal lad looking for his forever people.
Louie does okay with other small, low energy dogs but would do just fine as an only dog too. He does not enjoy playing with other dogs and can exhibit some alpha behaviors towards them, but he has done fine with other small dogs who just keep to themselves. He does totally fine co-existing. He has not been exposed to bigger dogs while in his foster home, and we would not recommend a home with bigger dogs just due to his alpha tendencies. Louie has not been exposed to cats while in our care, but he would probably do best in a home with no cats. As a senior unaccustomed to kids, Louie would not do well in a home with small children but would be fine in a home with older children who understand and respect boundaries.
Louie loves going on walks and is a very active pup for his age! He does really well on leash and enjoys his time outdoors. He does pull and bark at other dogs but is corrected easily with verbal commands. Louie is completely house-trained! He is not crate-trained and does not like being crated at all. He will let you know by barking until he is let out of the crate. He loves his dog beds and will take naps on them throughout the day. When it comes to nighttime, Louie wants to be in the big bed with his humans and he will not accept anything less! A home that will let Louie sleep in the big bed is the ideal home for him.
Louie has shown no food or toy aggression while in his foster home. Louie loves meal time, and is generally respectful of other dogs’ space when eating. He can benefit from the use of a slow feeder during meal time. Louie loves to play fetch but prefers to play inside and gets easily distracted outside. Louie is not a big barker and only barks when another dog starts or when he thinks someone is at the door. Louie loves car rides too! A doggy seat or seat belt is necessary for him as he will jump around the car just trying to get as close as possible to his favorite person. Louie is just one happy pup when he is around his people and wants to be as close as possible at all times!
Louie does amazing when it comes to meeting new people! He loves to get all of the pets, cuddles, and love by whoever is around. It is important that his boundaries are respected during these meetings, but he does absolutely amazing with these meetings as long as they are. He also does well when meeting other small dogs who are not playful or too in his face. Basically, Louie is a big fan of those (both human and canine) who can respect his personal space!
Louie can be a generally anxious pup. Even when Louie is in his favorite place (next to his humans), he will sometimes have the classic dachshund anxiety shakes. He also has pretty severe separation anxiety. He follows his person around all day, no matter where, when, or what he is doing. When left alone Louie barks, paces, and cries for a significant amount of time before burrowing under a blanket until you get home.

In our care, Louie has received all of the following: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Nails Trimmed, HeartWorm testing and medication, Major Dental (cleaning and removal).

Senior Dachshund Louie – 11 yrs, 14 lbs
The ideal home for Senior Dachshund Louie will be a home where someone works from home or is home a majority of the time. Louie just doesn’t want to be without his people because he loves them so much! Completely house-trained, he will not want to use a crate. He’s searching for someone who will enjoy walks with him and is fine with another small (calm) dog or two. Louie is requesting a family or person who will make room for him in the big bed. Adoption fee $200

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
