Introducing Dachshund Rascal

Introducing Dachshund Rascal! Weighing in at 11 pounds, 9 year old dachshund Rascal is searching for his forever home where he can get all of the cuddles his little heart desires! Rascal is the sweetest, happiest little guy and will make such a great addition to his forever family.

Introducing Dachshund Rascal

Rascal has done great around dogs of all sizes. While the dogs he lives with in his foster home are all under 20 pounds. He does well meeting larger dogs as well. He is a huge fan of cuddles with his foster siblings and loves following their lead in the yard.

Introducing Dachshund Rascal

Ideally, Rascal would love a canine sibling or two to spend his days with! We are unsure how he would do around cats. Rascal also hasn’t been around children since coming to his foster home. He is a very laid-back pup so we think he would do great in a home with responsible kids.

Introducing Dachshund Rascal

Rascal is good on leash and enjoys going for walks. He also really enjoys hanging out in the yard and sunbathing. Though he was not potty trained when coming to his foster home, he has made great progress. Rascal is very close to being fully trained. It is important for his future owner to know he will likely need a little more work in this area. Once he makes it to his new home, there will be an adjustment period.

When it comes to the crate, Rascal is not a fan. He will bark for a while before finally calming down. He will bark intermittently the rest of his time in the crate. Rascal does perfectly fine left out of the crate when home alone. Crate training has not been a focus in his foster home. He can be left alone for up to 8 hours and has had no issues with this. He is very relaxed when left alone as long as he’s hanging out with his doggy foster siblings.

Introducing Dachshund Rascal

Rascal will sometimes use the dog beds around the house, but he much prefers the big human bed or the couch. At night, Rascal sleeps on the big bed with his people and loves to cuddle. During the day, he can be found lounging on the couch or on the big bed with his foster siblings. He does a good job using the ramps around the house. Sometimes he needs to be reminded, especially when he gets overly excited.

Rascal has shown no toy or food aggression while in his foster home. He’s not the biggest fan of toys but has slowly started showing interest in them when the other pups play. Rascal does well in the car and is used to using a doggy seat belt in the car.

Introducing Dachshund Rascal

Rascal is friendly with meeting new people and new dogs as well! While he is not a huge fan of the vet and can be quite the grumpy little guy there, he has been super friendly to everyone else he has met whether they are human or canine. Rascal doesn’t show any signs of anxiety aside from when he is crated. He is also not a big barker but will definitely join in when the other pups start.

Vetting

Health wise, Rascal is a pretty healthy little guy! It is important to know that his previous home shared that he sometimes seemed to have spine issues. Picking him up a certain way would cause him to yelp. None of that behavior has been observed in his foster home. The vet he was taken to confirmed he shows no signs of IVDD after fully examining him. It is important for his adopter to utilize ramps around the house and ensure he is consistently using them to prevent future spine issues or IVDD. Rascal received a dental in March of 2024 but will likely need another within the next 6 months or so.

In our care, Rascal has received all of the following: Vet check, Dental exam, Nails trimmed, Heartworm testing and medication

Any donations to help us with vetting expenses is greatly appreciated. We rely on individual donations.
