Adoptable mix Duchess HAS BEEN ADOPTED! She is a super social, young alpha dog! This cute little dachshund mix is only three years old and weighs 15 pounds.
Adoptable Mix Duchess
She gets along well with most any dog and once had a pit bull fur sibling, so big dogs are not a problem. Her alpha attitude is important to consider though. She’s a mighty little dog!
Although we have no knowledge of Duchess with cats, her foster mom believes she would be good with them.
Duchess would most likely not be good with very young kids as she doesn’t like being startled and can react negatively to quick movements. She has nipped two adults we are aware of, in such circumstances.
“The Duchess” does enjoy her time walking on a leash and does very well on it. When you pick up the leash, she is quick to respond and will run over for her walk. She’s a proper lady, our Duchess, who is most certainly house trained. Like with most dogs, it’s important she goes out on a regular basis. She likes to get her business over quickly.
Duchess is great in her crate, she sleeps there the whole night with no issues. If she needs to go in the crate during the day, she again has no issues. Currently, she sleeps in her crate with a dog bed and a blanket.
She is not food or toy aggressive. Duchess loves playing with her toys and is very good at eating her food at breakfast and dinner time. She also enjoys riding in the car and does well during these outings.
Like many dogs, she is shy and apprehensive when first meeting people, but once she has been introduced, she does fine. She’s a friendly dog, but again, doesn’t like surprises or sudden movements, especially as she is getting to know you. This is not surprising at all as so many rescue and shelter dogs require patience and understanding.
Duchess shows some signs of anxiety at first. She likes to explore her surroundings completely when at a new place before she can settle down. Again, these behaviors are not surprising and are important to understand when adopting.
With any loud noise, she jumps up to look to see what is going on. It’s very likely that a severe storm or thunderstorm would cause her additional anxiety. Although she’s shown anxiety with sudden movements and loud noises, she hasn’t shown signs of any problems with separation anxiety.
In Summary
Duchess is a very sweet, beautiful, and outgoing dog. She is extremely loving, a definite licker who enjoys giving kisses. She loves playing with her grey monkey and laying near you on the couch for attention.
Duchess is completely house trained and enjoys going into her crate at night for bedtime. She is fearful until she gets comfortable with new surroundings, but adjusts very quickly. Duchess would be fine on her own or with fur siblings. She would have to be alpha if she were to have fur-siblings.

*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
