Adoptable Doxie Toby is the most cuddly pup you’ll ever meet. HE LOVES HUMANS more than anything else and will paw at you when he’s ready to get under the covers for sleep time. Beware – he should not be left alone on a bed (or other tall place) as he is really into parkour and will jump!
Toby does fine with other calm dogs. He is interested in other dogs at his own time and pace. He does really well with his foster brother because both of them are relatively uninterested in each other.
He has not been tested with large dogs since being with Low Rider. We have tried to get Toby to interact with the neighbors medium sized dog, but Toby barks and chases the dog, although I suspect he is all bark and no bite.
Toby came from a home with 2 cats. The previous owner said he did really well. He has not been tested with cats since being in the foster home.
Toby will tolerate the children. He won’t be aggressive, but will be very anxious the entire time. He can probably be adopted into a home with occasional children visiting, but would do ALOT better in a home where no children permanently reside. Older children who are calm would likely be fine.
Adoptable Doxie Toby – 8 years, 9 pounds
Toby LOVES walks. He gets a bit anxious sometimes and will stop and ask to be carried back home. But for the most part, he really enjoys a long “walk” that’s more like a speed walk.
A smart boy, Toby is house trained and will go by the door to tell you he needs to go out. Toby enjoys his crate and sleeps in there very well. He has not been tested in a crate for any length of time during the day, only to sleep at night.
According to his foster mom, Toby THINKS he loves car rides. He will run to the car if he sees evidence of humans leaving. He will jump in literally anyone’s car if the door is open – the neighbor, a stranger, the delivery man, anyone. But as soon as he gets in the car he is anxious almost the entire time. He will pace and run around (very dangerously). A crate does not seem to work. He does seem to calm down in car rides sometimes, but its mostly nerves. The prior owners said he did well in the car if a bed was there for him to lay, but that has not been our experience.
Toby has never met an adult human he doesn’t like. He will bark at first, but will immediately start licking their face after a minute or two of relentless barking.
Adoptable Doxie Toby 2 is a very anxious dog. He takes daily anxiety medicine. He shakes for (what seems like) no reason at all, even with the medicine. The anxiety was a lot more present in the beginning of his stay at his foster’s house but has gotten better with time. He will need extra patience and love during his adjustment time.
He is the MOST anxious when its raining or thundering. He was prescribed a stronger anxiety medicine for thunderstorms that should be taken sparingly. He has a thunder jacket, but we’re not sure it helps much. He will bark, pace, whimper and cry for hours on end if its thundering without the stronger anxiety medicine.
He barks any time a person or dog walks by the house or if he is meeting someone new. He barks at loud noises, during walks at other dogs, and at loud movies or tv shows.
Surprisingly, Toby does not seem to show signs of separation anxiety. He seems to do really well alone as long as he is free roaming. When he first came to his foster house, she separated him into a large room by himself and he would cry and pace for a bit, but would then relax. After he was given free roam of the house, he stopped showing any signs at all.
If you like a little weird, Toby is for you. He is so sweet, cuddly, and incredibly adorable. He has the quirkiest personality. He loves: catching flies with his mouth, humans (every single one of them), and mouth kisses. He hates: rain, windshield wipers, and action movies. He likes to play by himself with his toys and leave his paw-rents with a mess of fluff to pick up. He is completely house broken and would be a great companion for any adult human.
