Adoptable Dachshund Rooney -ADOPTED

Adoptable Dachshund Rooney –  At 16 pounds and 11 years old, Rooney is one of our very sweet seniors. He is calm, cuddly, sweet, and looking for someone who will spend their time relaxing with him and accompanying him on leisurely sniff sessions outside. Rooney makes friends with every animal and person he meets!

Adoptable Dachshund Rooney

Rooney is very friendly with humans and canines alike! He absolutely loves meeting new people and expresses his excitement with lots of tail wags. He gets along well with the other small dog in his home and is always happy to greet other dogs on walks. Small and big dogs alike, Rooney loves them all! We are unsure how he would do with cats, although we believe he would do well as long as they respect his personal space.

Rooney

Rooney has met small children and toddlers on walks and wags his tail while receiving calm pets. However, we do believe Rooney would do best in a home without younger children due to his blindness. If he did live with children, the children would need to be understanding of his personal space and the importance of boundaries with him.

Mr. Rooney is blind, so he requires extra attention, patience, and care to ensure that he is comfortable and safe in every space he enters. Once he gets the lay of the land, he becomes very confident, but it may take him time to warm up and gain the trust of a new space. Although he is not shy, Rooney can sometimes get spooked easily if someone does not announce themselves due to his blindness. His ideal owner will respect those boundaries, as would anyone else entering their home or interacting with Rooney.

He is very confident in places he is comfortable in, but it takes him some time to get a lay of the land and feel confident that he won’t run into things while walking around. Aside from his lack of sight, Rooney is pretty healthy for a senior guy. Currently, he is on a k-9 immune support supplement to improve slightly low white blood cell count, and it seems to be working to improve these numbers. At his most recent appointment, the vet said that his numbers are great for a dog his age!

Rooney has a super sweet personality and loves to please his people! He does his “Rooney Hops” when he wants attention and treats, and knows lots of tricks to entertain you! So far, it has been discovered that he knows how to sit, shake, lay down, and do a partial roll over.

Rooney enjoys lounging at home, but is always up for a car ride and an outing where he can hangout in your lap or be carried around when he gets too worn out. He does great in the car and seems to really enjoy going for car rides. He is not the biggest fan of walks. He does not pull on the leash, but he will often protest a walk and just prefers to wander around on his own terms.

Adoptable Dachshund Rooney

Rooney is house-trained. We are unsure how he would do with being crated, as he has not needed to be while in his foster home. Rooney loves his dog beds and also loves sleeping with his humans in the big bed. He has shown no signs of food or toy aggression while in his foster home. He shows no signs of separation anxiety once his routine is established and he doesn’t mind being apart from his humans for a while, he just sleeps for a majority of the time when his humans are away. Rooney is an absolutely wonderful companion who has lots of love to give!

In our care, Rooney has received the following: Vet Check, 1 or more Vaccines, Dental Exam, Medication (temporary – like for acute infection), Nails Trimmed, Heart Worm testing and medication
