Adoptable dachshund mix Shadow has been adopted! He is a 1.5 yr old, Doxie Mix, who weighs about 18 lbs, he is a sweetheart! He is a long legged doxie mix, and beautiful. He is his foster mom’s shadow and follows her everywhere. Shadow is looking for a new mom to love him forever.
He’s more comfortable with women. He is BARELY warming up to his foster mom’s husband and is not fond of meeting new folks, because of this we prefer a smaller sized household, where he can feel safe. It may take time for him to warm to a male, but love and patience will do the trick. It’s important that he have a female human around to begin the relationship feeling safe and secure.
He really is a love bug and there is not a mean bone in him, he’s just shy. His ideal adopter is someone who understands he has some more progress to make, has patience and experience.
Shadow walks on the leash like he was trained to heel. He is doing great
with house training and will even cruise by the door. He’s a smart boy who learns fast.
He does seem to have a high prey drive and would love to chase every bird lizards or other crawly things if not on a leash. As you probably know, all good hounds like to chase stuff! This pup is no exception.
His foster family does not have a yard but being so young he would appreciate having
one! He likes to play chase around the house sometimes and enjoys walks. A place where he can run and play would be good for him.
He is laid back and quiet in the house, which is impressive for a young dog who had no training and lived outside. He’s adjusting very quickly to the good life.
He is learning not to jump up on people. He likes riding in the golf cart and sleeps all night in his enclosure without having an accident.
Shadow has come a long way from the situation he was in. We expect that with continued love and guidance, and a safe environment, he will grow up to be an excellent dog! As it stands, he is an excellent young dog already.
