Adoptable dachshund Cody is now Pending Adoption. He’s an adorable bundle of doxie love. He’s 6 years old and 16 pounds. Cody is a joy to be around.
Adoptable Dachshund Cody
He gets along with other dogs but is also independent enough that he’d be good as an only dog. However, Cody isn’t quite so fond of cats! Though he likes other dogs, he presented as shy once at an event. There were lots of people and lots of dogs, so it’s likely he felt overwhelmed.
He would be a great companion to younger children as long as they were being taught appropriate behavior around dogs. He is patient with people.
Cody LOVES to go for walks on a leash! He is crate trained, as well as house trained. He would prefer to sleep with you in bed but he also accepts sleeping in a dog bed at night or he likes to sleep on the couch as well.
He CAN BE food aggressive but it is not prominent all the time. Most likely, in a home without a lot of dogs, he would be fine with food handling.
Cody likes to go for car rides. He is nervous at first but settles and enjoys watching out the window. He is somewhat anxious when you get out of the car without him and watches for you to come get him.
This little guy is not an excessive barker. However, he does bark at unknown things outside yet settles easily once he knows it is nothing or he is asked to settle down.
He is very healthy with the exception of being on a special diet to control his bowel consistency at all times due to surgery that was done to repair a prolapsed rectum. The prolapse has been corrected with this surgery and no longer occurs however, his bowels must be kept at a soft consistency through special food, a medication that is given 30 minutes prior to eating and the addition of lactulose (sugar water) into his food.
This is working very well but needs to be kept up for the rest of his life. Cody is a sweet, loving boy that is worth every minute and effort of managing his diet and he will return the compassion and care shown him tenfold.
Cody is a handsome boy that draws a lot of attention. He is very well behaved, comes when he is called and basically just wants to please you. He’ll make a wonderful dog for someone who is willing to prioritize his special diet and care.
If you believe you could provide the safe and loving forever home for this dog, please fill out an application with the dogs name on it.
*Be advised, we have a couple of volunteers processing hundreds of applications. We are unable to call everyone back as we do not have ANY employees. Our dedicated volunteers and foster parents will check references of the applications that appear to be a good match. At that time, if you are chosen, we will contact you to arrange a home visit.
The adoption fee helps to cover costs, as each dog is fully vetted, and treated, as needed to prepare them to move forward in their new life. You pay no fee unless you are chosen to adopt.
